So I was watching the new Bleach movie on Netflix, and thought that that oar-sized katana looked so ridiculous that I had to fire up Blender and make one for Skyrim. If nothing else, it looked like it would fit right in with Beth's paddles :p
Note that this one isn't added to the chest, so anyone who isn't into anime weapons, won't see it in the game. You have to either craft it or give it to yourself with "help zanpakuto" and "player.additem" if you want it..
Also, it's the only change in 1.07, so if you don't want a katana that you could row row row your boat with, you don't need to download 1.07.
I must say I really like your historical weapons series (notably this and the Secrets of the Silver Blades pack), they are some of my personal favorites. I do however have one question, and that is are the blades in this proportionally sized? Some of the Katanas in particular seem to be about 22 inches (which I do believe you mentioned was the minimum for a katana before it becomes a wakazashi), however in the description you mentioned that they were 2.3 shaku long (which I am guessing is about 27 or so inches.) Is this correct, or is my character just a little big? (Using Racemenu mod I was able to make them about 10% larger, which seems to fit my character's height.)
Sorry for the late reply. I don't use RaceMenu, so I have no idea what it does for relative sizes, or whether it overrides any scaling factors I put in the mesh, or anything.
The dimensions I state in all my mods are calculated by converting the game units, assuming that a vanilla character is about 5'10"-5'11" or so, i.e., same as an average western male these days. A standard character is 128 units tall, so that's 70" / 128 = approx 0.55 inch per game unit. Which is the scaling factor I used to get the mesh hopefully the right size.
Of course, if your character is about 10% bigger, then the weapon will look about 10% smaller relative to their size. An extra 10% on an assumed 70"-71" or so character, ooer, that would make that guy six and a half foot tall. That's over two metres. So, yeah, weapons would look a bit smaller in a huge guy's hands-
Conversely, most japanese are a bit shorter, so in their hands it would look slightly bigger. You get the idea.
That said, most katanas are really shorter than even European one-handers. There's a reason they preferred the nodachi or naginata as a battlefield weapon before firearms.
So my advice would be: use the nodachi. That's what I do :p
Minor, and only bug, I've noticed so far with the mod is that in the Windhelm home Hjerim, if you place any of the two handed weapons on the wall mounts in the hall, you can then no longer pass through the doorway. Other than that, great mod!
I know that sometimes the game doesn't seem to obey the flag to use the bounding box instead of collision geometry (and the Skyrim collision geometry meshes being off by a factor of 10 in NifSkope also doesn't make generating one easy). So far it seems to be always related to Hearthfire, which I don't have, and nothing even remotely similar happens in any of the normal vanilla-game homes, so that also doesn't make it easy for me to find out WTH is going wrong there.
But yeah, anyway, as far as I get it, in some hearthfire related situations that I don't fully understand, the game seems to think that you have a weapon the size of a cart on that wall. So you're going to bump into it from quite a distance.
I'm genuinely sorry about the problem, and I understand why some people would want to display nice weapons around if they went to the trouble of building a nice home. But, you know, without actually buying that DLC, there doesn't seem to be any way for me to even reproduce the problem.
All I can say is, well, try to not let them anywhere out of your inventory when you're in Hearthfire homes. They work ok in vanilla homes like Breezehome or even some modded homes like the tower from Helgen Reborn, though, if that helps. So you could display them there.
In any case, thanks for taking the time to write that report. It's hard to get almost any feedback these days, and I'm grateful for any I can get.
Same here in "Skyfall" - Home. Arranged nicely all Katanas on a wall in the base floor and now not be able to walk in the hallway above any more without getting speared Not even in the 2nd floor...
Very nice! It's good to see a weapon pack that has historical AND practical origins, with so many oversized weapons being the rage these days. As a former fencer I can certainly tell you know your stuff about the weapons, too. Kudos!
Well, in all fairness, I've made a few canoe paddles in other mods too, but yeah, history is fun and I do prefer stuff that has been used successfully across centuries of actual fighting. In any case, nice to meet another fellow who appreciates the simple elegance and functionalism of actual weapons.
I agree, realistic weapons are very appealing to me, especially historical ones. I also love fantasy weapons that look like they could be realistically used in battle (such as those from The Witcher and Lord of the Rings.) As a weapons and history buff, I find myself cringing at all of the absurd trumpet shaped weapons which appear in modern fantasy... (ahemW.O.W.ahem)

P.S. The "Shinobigatana" or "Ninjato" is actually a fantasy weapon. ;)
Anyways, great mod. I wouldn't mind seeing more
