Progress on the new mod is going smooth. For proof of work being done I am going to post another video. I did mess up in the video and did not feel like recording again so it takes me a minute to manually teleport to Markarth.
Things already done:
Beginning Quest Override Completed - Now works custom and in this upcoming mod version satisfies all quest parameters leaving little to no weirdness like this current mod did.
Starting Area - Complete enough for me and collision added.
Starting Level Menu - Does not set a direct level, this is for vanilla leveling to work as intended - (Options are 1+, 5+, 9+, 13+, 18+, 21+, Choosing an option means that your level will be that level at a minimum in most cases [the range of your level may be slightly higher])
Option to increase 2 skills by 25 (This is what makes your level range which is why direct levels cannot be given) [For those trying to start at level 1, there is an option to choose none which bypasses raising any skills and will let you start at level 1]
Warrior, Thief, Mage, Bard each gives a full set of clothes/gear/weapon and if applicable spells. (Needs more fine tuning)
House start options - Near complete (in progress) Starts you with clothes already, You may choose to own one of the five main game houses for now. These are in Whiterun, Riften, Markarth, Windhelm, Solitude. Choosing one will purchase the home vanilla style giving you the key and ability to purchase the decorations. The gold will be given to fully furnish the home. This satisfies the games quest completion for owning the home but does not do the other quest simply bypasses the need to.
Need to do:
Quest linking and stages for almost all starting options but the homes as they were done first.
Create player teleports to teleport you to a custom starting area per option chosen, no teleports yet created as they will be done once the home options have been fine tuned better.
Current starting test done: over 100 in game test. (sometimes the test was like 10 seconds long, so 100 is not that many)
Lines of code written: (Idk like 600 - 1200) Maybe more, not likely less. Some are short so ehh.
House Test 4 Video of current progess:
Ah been awhile since I played thought I gave the wrong amount of cash, I did not childrens room replaces another. So all was correct.
Well since I lost the source of the last because I suck.....lol I am attempting to do better with this new upcoming mod.
I have made a video to display what I have started so far. I have attempted to take into account some of the little things I was asked during the creation of the last two variants of Alternative start mods I built. The beginning settings of this new mod are in place and I have created and linked the menus together now. While the menu does not start your adventure yet this was step one.
Day 2 of working on the new mod: 720p early progress preview.
This is rather small and you cannot fullscreen unless you press the Youtube logo in the bottom right once you start the video.
In this new version I plan to let you choose a starting level 1-25, and two attributes to raise by 25! Then your starting option. Based on your chosen level various attributes will raise - it is done this way to avoid not being able to raise your HP,SP,MP per level and doing it this way will result in them all being able to be allocated.
TLDR: I will be building a new mod due to accidental deletion of the OR source of this. I will attempt to make it more polished for you.
Longer Part: I have not been able to mod due to an OS switch and such. I have now gone back to windows and have Skyrim LE installed again. I will begin creating a better version of a starting mod. This time changing my focus a bit more into the details. I think I may call it "Alternate Start - Life in another world (Standalone mod)". I will be taking suggestions and such. Although if they are too extensive, they might not be considered, that said I will do my best. I will attempt to one-up this current mod. Thank you to everyone who has endorsed and downloaded. I hope you will all be around to test out the new upcoming mod. (I will be starting it today). I will attempt to be better about update details in the change log and the polishing of new areas and start options. I will no longer retain Mara as the main deity. Sorry for the late response and my absence.
Edit: I have started the new mod, so far progressing smoothly, this time I attempted to ensure all start quest stages were satisfied as before there may have been remnants of the Unbound quest that were not correctly finished resulting in incorrect questing lineups later in the game. I have already changed the starting area. You still begin with character creation but with less wait time and no black out. The quest completes after you select a side via the popup menu. It then automatically begins the Before the Storm quest and does not need to teleport you to Riverwood for it to begin. - I will begin working on creating the new life menu which will host the options to begin a new life with predefined settings. Edit 2: New life menu started - First five options are now being worked on which are - Warrior - Thief - Mage - Bard - Cleric. Over the course of the last mod there was much to be worked on such as the incorrect vampire race start style. This mod will attempt to remedy those issues and allow for smoother starts as I get to them.
This is the current lore, if someone thinks they can do a better job of it, comment here and I will consider it and give credit in the description if your lore is used instead! Thank you! - The starting room is temporary, until I feel like building a better one.
I will also consider adding starting options commented, under these conditions as this is how I am doing it.
Option Requirements to be considered. 1. Starting option title such as - Warrior (Must be short and sweet no long names)
2. Does not put you halfway through a questline. (Must be New Game intended quest targets) Such as being in Riften and starting the Thieves Guild questline. (aka the first in the questline)
3. Starting gear (Helmet,Chest,Legging,Boots,Gauntlets, Weapon/Shield, Spells, etc.) The Simpler gear sets are preferred as more items = additional coding but if it fits it will be done.
4. Starting Level no higher than 10 (Perk points given will match starting level)
5. Starting Gold
6. Location (Where to start) such as (in Whiterun in the Temple).
No more than this such as extra lore/etc. please. (If I am missing something typical you would want in this list of requirements/options let me know)
I am now tired and will begin more tomorrow. New mod started on Feb.3 2025
The concept of coming back to life in another world is amazing! I installed it on Special Edition. I tried "continue as is". It worked without any problems, but is there anything I should be careful about? Could there be problems in the future?
Just one point, The appearance of the PC (Player character) has been reset, but is it correct? Will the character makeup of the PC not be maintained? Because it is a Special Edition? I only need "continue as is", so if you know anything, please let me know.
Sorry for the delay my time is crunched IRL at the moment. OMG it works as is on SE? @IVYmk2 did the cursor issue occur? Make sure you downloaded the correct file from below you do not need both. As the cursor disappearing issue should be gone.
I'm glad you like the concept it needs lots of work and I'll be getting back at it here soon! As for the makeup? What exactly do you mean as this mod is ofc new game intended?! Is the appearance flawed? Thank you for your time and input if all seems to be working I'll post it to SE as well as I go. A video from title to start area in SE would be godly so I can see it working. There should be no issues later on in game but I still have work to do, such as helgen events and making sure all is proper afterward there as most is. Game should play as intended, vampire option has several flaws at the moment I recommend not choosing it.
Haha you got me opening CK already. Next Update will be posted hopefully next week. Will focus on adding the marksman/archer options and weapons, boots, gloves/guantlets, helms to existing options. Please feel free to list an idea! I love interacting and attempting to add community options. -will have to wait a month
Since you said it works as is in SE went ahead and duped post so I can maintain SE and LE together. SE Post of this MOD hotfix-a is the latest and the SE dupe only has it listed.
I found that you uploaded MOD to SE (NEXUS). Is that okay? I'm worried, but, many posts, and they seem to be well-received, so I'm relieved. Thank you for writing about this in Description. I'm really glad, tried mod on SE.
When I downloaded mod from SE (NEXUS) and tried it, the mouse cursor did not disappear(OK).
05/20/2024 - Will have some free time this week, hopefully will be able to get some time in and provide further updates and options! 05/21/2024 - Current limitations resulted in a temporary device change, of course I could just wait but nah. 05/22/2024 - Fresh Install onto Linux system, mod now being developed on Linux, no worries this will not affect the mod!
05/22/2024 - Updated comments, committing time to AS-TTOR (This mod) will be providing a few more starting options, 1 for certain since it seems I left out a marksman start.
I may remove the default set levels and instead make a menu initiate after you choose your starting option. Which would allow you choose to start levels 1-10 likely as 1, 5, 7, 10. Instead of automatically being set as it is now.
I once again would like and appreciate some input! I do not wish to make long starting options with extensive stories and such (An idea I had considered in the old ASTLOM mod I made, I do not have the time/someone could PM me about creating and extending the mod for more involved starts), I will look into adding an ESP for such things, allowing the starting options to be extended by others in an easy manner. This way even if I for some reason go AFK for a number of years. It won't necessarily stop new content from being added to this.
I need to fix, patch up and change multiple of the starting options, such as the , Hero, Vampire, etc...
and a lot else, YAY!
I hope this alpha/beta release helped get across the idea!
6/3/2024 - Seems I will need to wait till I can access my main PC. Certain issues arise when attempting to make some changes in CK with proton/linux. Seemed fine haha but not quite.
I'm not sure if I messed something up with installing this (used Mod Organizer 2), but when I start a new game it just goes into the vanilla intro into Helgen. From watching the video on youtube, it's supposed to go directly into the mod's character creation. I didn't install any other alternate start mods.
Correct, if installed correctly it should take you straight into character creation. I use vortex, it's possible I made a mistake but no other complaints about it not working so far.
It's the esp + a Scripts folder with the compiled scripts. If it doesn't need to override anything its not that many files you could try copying it manually for now to see if that works
Thanks I'll give that a try. And to clarify, does the hotfix-a download (March 2) get installed on top of the one posted on Feb 29?
Update: MO2 seems to be doing something wrong with it unfortunately. the esp and scripts don't get copied at all, despite the esp showing up in the plugins list in MO2. But installing it manually does work. I may just go back to Vortex, I never had an issue with it. I mainly was trying MO2 b/c a friend was insisting it was better. Thanks again for the help!
Glad to hear you got it figured out though, no hotfix-a is the latest version of the mod and is all that is needed! I'm sure you figured that out by now though!
an interesting mod you made, I have a few questions if you don't mind: 1. can you tell me more info about these options: traveler, transcriber, collector, and finally hero? Because I want to make my MC a powerhouse with jack with all trades with absolute power alongside melee weapons, hand-to-hand combats, and magic arsenals. 2. when done choosing the options, can we go strike away with the Civil War questline or the main quest to make things faster? 3. I believe this mod does not compatible with Althernate start live another live then? if so can I remove that mod by replacing this 1 when playing a new game? thanks.
Thanks :). I would assume any mods altering the starting game quest will be incompatible, so yes simply uncheck the original ASLAL, then use this one, more options will be added after I complete each existing option, some options are baseline for this alpha, meaning they do not modify you into quests yet but start you close to the intended quests for that starting style.
I have yet to modify skills for the starting options, so for now it shouldn't matter much for starting a powerhouse.
Yes, even though you choose a starting option, you will also have the Before the Storm quest, depending on which side you chose, it will ask you to speak with the Appropriate NPC in Riverwood and continue the game without making you go through Helgen.
As for the options. Each one currently equips a BaseArmorTemplate for the specific option.
The Magician: Start Level: 5 Gold: 750 Perks: 5 Starts you in the college of Winterhold, quest completed upto the ward demonstration task.
The Thief: Start Level: 5 Gold: 750 Perks: 5 Starts you having proved yourself to start at the Thieves Guild in Riften.
The Warrior: Start Level: 5 Gold: 750 Perks: 5 Starts you in an inn in Dragon Bridge, having started both sides quests to join their side in the war, easy war start.
The Vampire: Start Level: 5 Gold: 750 Perks: 5 Starts you as a vampire, allied with vampires. In a vampire cave. [Incomplete for now but does as said, just needs more added]
The Companion: Start Level: 5 Gold: 750 Perks: 5 Starts you in Whiterun, after requesting to join the Companions (I had to aggro the NPC to get him outside to initiate the quest scene but then it worked, let me know if you have issues with this options starting quest)
[The Below do not yet have set quests yet and were hastened for the sake of initial release, although starting you in areas that lead to quest that make sense in most cases]
The Traveler: Start Level: 5 Gold: 850 Perks: 7 Starts you in Solstheim, in the abandoned building outside ravenrock near the dead body.
The Assassin: Start Level: 5 Gold: 750 Perks: 5 Starts you in Windhelm's Aretino Residence. A key has been added on a table to let you out, here you can start the quest to join the dark brotherhood.
The Collector: Start Level: 5 Gold: 750 Perks: 5 Start's you in Blackreach in the alchemy lab like one of the options for AS-Live another life did. Cleaned up and changed the room a little. (Alchemist's start)
The Home Owner: Start Level: 5 Gold: 750 Perks: 5 Starts you in a new home outside of Whiterun. Has most needs cluttered up in the house and changes are coming to it with updates as well. The key needs to be grabbed from off the table inside or you will lose access without cheating if you exit without grabbing it.
The Hero: Start Level: 7 Gold: 5000 Perks: 7 I actually did this one so quick idk for sure....I think you start in the temple of mara lol....
Anyhow it is all set to be updated an changed as well as me extending the options, one of the options I plan to add in the feature is "The Archer"/"The Marksman"
Hope this helps a bit and answered some of your questions!
thanks for replying. however, there is a final problem that I need to ask if you don't mind: does your mod trigger by activating an object such as Mara statue in the OG or after done choosing options? because in the og, I always buff up my mc with powerful active effects which make him/her turn to literally god so I don't know if your mod works the same way as the og or not! thanks in advance.
The original Alternate Start mod I had built did, this one does not rely on an object activator, instead relies on quest stages and is activated on new game start. The menu to choose your options should appear upon beginning the quest before the storm which occurs when you exit the starting room and get teleported within the vicinity of Riverwood. I thought about doing it that way but did not quite do such. So it activates after choosing an option I would say. I hope I understood and answered your question if not let me know!
Very valid questions, been so long since I have actually played Skyrim had no clue until your comment that I messed up the points up that bad, will work on updates to resolve the issue, I will create a new menu that appears after choosing an option that ask if you would like to raise your level, allowing people that may not want a raised level to say no, and then give appropriate points per level vs how it is now. As for the sides it just counts as you choosing a side via the beginning reflecting whether you went with Ralof or Hadvar at the beginning not for the war itself. Would this be better?!
great concept! i'd prefer this to alternate start because it is a much more classic rpg start with more flexibility in choosing a class, looking forward to it
but it seems that as i start the game with your mod the opening bethesda captions "presents elder scrolls 5 skyrim" still play and mouse cursor disappears, so i guess thats one and only minor issue i found. goodluck
Ahhhhh! Thank you so much, that's why the cursor was disappearing during the racemenu, my mistake, I will remove it in a future update and get that squared away! Thanks for the input, all else seems to work?
Released a hotfix taking care of this issue as I did not mind the title but it was indeed the cause of the cursor disappearing. Thank you, feel free to download the update whenever and the issue should be resolved! If it still seems to occur please let me know ASAP!
