    What about that magic that allows you to make this work after installing the mod on an existing save?

    It does not work for me :c I have cleared the Broken Oar Grotto long before getting the quest, I thought I will be able to use the journal to report that nasty lizard, but no. Then I installed the mod and nothing has changed :[ Maybe it will work for other characters...

    Edit: I have found a workaround for that:
    - press ~ to open the console
    - reset the quest with: resetquest ms07
    - close the console
    - talk to Jaree Ra to start the quest anew
    - report Jaree Ra to Aldis :P

    Yeah, Bethesda had a SMALL remorse of conscience with the dark brotherhood quest, but then with the 90% of other quests... Nah.
    I mean, you can destroy the dark broterhood but not thieves guild, and you can't even report to guards someone who wants to set a shipwreck.
    It seems that for them your character should be a criminal, but AT LEAST could not get too dirty becoming an assassin. WOW.

    The fire in the lighthouse is gone, and I can't put it out. Any idea how to fix it?

      Hi! This will sound very obvious, but have you tried reloading your save? Try saving in front of the empty pit and then reloading that save. If that doesn't work, I would trying loading up a save before the quest began and seeing if that fixes it. Lastly, and honestly, I doubt that it's the issue, but do you have any quest mods that might be causing incompatibilities e.g. The Choice is Yours? Make sure that SaveTheIcerunner.esp loads after those (and if unsure, if possible, load it low anyway). Let me know how it goes:)

    Major props to Parapets for the original mod and attackdr0ne for the backporting. Installed this just before talking to Jaree-Ra, and was able to finish the quest and save the Icerunner without a hitch. I was always left a little soured doing this quest and how there was no choice in how the quest played out. Yes, I am well aware that the alternate route was to just ignore it and leave the objective in the misc part of the journal.

    Again, a big thank you to attackdr0ne for bringing this mod to the LE version of the game. I know most of the work is being done on SE, but for those of us that can't upgrade to that version, having mods like this on the old version is wonderful.

    Side note: Haven't tested this much but I noticed that Jaree kept quiet after installing this mod and before ever going over to talk to him - though I'd been in Solitude several times. For some people that alone might be enough to make them happy.

    i am conflicted with installing this mod. and using the argonian sibling's as a way to power up the ebony blade.

    I too find it displeasing that the game seems to often force the Dragonborn into being a dupe, or simply not completing a specific quest to a satisfactory ending,. It's untidy in my view.

    It is sometimes hard to tell if Bethesda's famous and deliberate "Unreliable Narrator" system is at work, or we are offered an incomplete or poorly done quest; maybe it's a way to incorporate it all together. What I do know is that all of us here are still interested in a decade-plus old game; that's impressive.

    But I digress.

    The most prominent examples of "Be A Dupe or Don't Do It At All" I can think of are:

    The Thieves Guild has to exist. I can wipe out the Dark Brotherhood, but not the Thieves? Why not, if my Dragonborn is a Good Guy? There are mods for that, though...

    Blood on the Ice. Having Wuunferth arrested on hearsay and conjecture (the real killer strikes again, and as we all know, is revealed to have been Calixto all along). Is there a mod for that? Probably somewhere. Or can I hit Calixto, get his key, open the chest in his house and grab the proof?

    Paarthurnax. Killing Paarthurnax (in my own opinion wrong, although I know many disagree) because Delphine and Esbern say he needs to die, and the Last Dragonborn  has to kill him (let them carry out the sentence if they want). Yes, by Kyne, I have the Paarthurnax Dilemna.

    Lights Out. Dealt with here.

      You don't have to have Wuunferth arrested, even if that isn't exactly clear. When you have investigated Hjerim ask any guard about the amulet and he will direct you to Calixto. He will identify the amulet and offer to buy it, ask him if the court wizard shoudn't have it. Then sell it or keep it, it doesn't really matter you only miss some gold if you don't. Find Viola and exhaust any dialouge options with her. She will insist you go and talk with Jorleif. Don't do that, instead go and talk with Wuunferth and tell him that you heard that he dabbles in necromancy and go from there.

    Been having a slight issue where when I clear out the Grotto of the Maruaders, blackmail Jaree-ra with the journal and then go to the Icerunner, the Mauraders there automatically attack me and forcibly changes the quest into vanilla where I had to kill Deeja. Reloading previous saves and attempting other paths does not change this.

      Hm, strange. If it works and then reverts itself to vanilla, then there could be something else overwriting the mod plugin. You can try putting the plugin a bit lower in your plugin order and then reloading to the save in which the quest isn't started yet. If you're up to it, you could try manually checking if that is actually the case using tes5edit. I don't know how familiar you're with tes5edit, so I'll try to quickly run through of how to go about it:
      - load up tes5edit,
      - in the 'Module Selection' window just click 'OK' and click 'OK' to any prompts that pop up,
      - wait until you see 'Background Loader: finished' message in the 'Messages' window,
      - type in '00023A64' into the 'FormID' bar near the top left corner and hit enter - this will bring up the entire quest record,
      - now in the 'View' window you will see the records which modify the quest in any way (the first one being Skyrim.esm),
      - now you can see whether SaveTheIcerunner.esp is the last plugin to modify the quest --> if it turns out that the changes                    made by the mod are indeed being overwritten by another plugin, load SaveTheIcerunner.esp after that plugin and load                      the save before the quest was started.
      If you're 100% sure that that the above is not the cause of your issue, then unfortunately, I don't think I can really do anything. I've looked through the original mod's comment section and there were a few people which had a problem similar to yours, however the MA hasn't given any apparent solution to it.
