Note: Nov 2022 THIS MOD IS UNSUPPORTED. (for Skyrim LE) It is primarily up as people keep bugging me to make it unhidden.
I will no longer be able to update the Skyrim LE version of this mod as the Skyrim AE/SE version of Proteus relies on Papyrus Extender. This is a mod that hasn't been updated for Skyrim LE, meaning newer versions of Proteus will not work within Skyrim LE. V.4.1.0 will remain the Skyrim LE version.
I strongly encourage you to buy Skyrim AE/SE and use this mod and all its patches.
Hi, is it possible to play with multiple characters, but only one being treated like the dragonborn? This is a reddit post from 2 years ago. https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimmods/comments/qm4uty/project_proteus_v5_released_multiple_player/ Where it was suggested - is such a mechanic added?
i found racemenu cause ctd when switching beetwen pc so disable racemenu from mod organizer and then play the game but your appearance still same if you swap pc, but its fine, i just need swap feature for playing quest with different character
Love this mod but lately been having trouble with the Friendly NPCs I summon having the wrong body. Female characters have male bodies but their original heads. Anyone know what's causing this?
It's a bug, but you can use a console command to fix that. Click on the NPC and type "sexchange". That'll get the player character's body type to be accurate as the exact gender. :)
Most likely you either have smp extension. Either give it a clothes and hair without smp or just disable it for this summoning. Once you got sexchange in order, turn smp on.
I don't know if anyone's going to have any advice for me, but I'm gonna try running this mod on Linux Oldrim.
My only concern is the Papyrus Extender requirement. Papyrus Extender has "Visual C++ Redistributables 2019" as an off-site requirement, which I don't wanna even try to figure out. Papyrus Extender isn't listed in the drop-down requirement list for Proteus, but it is listed in the description. In the drop-down list, only SKSE and JContainers have “hard requirement” next to them.
In the full guide, it says “Papyrus Extender- without it many parts of the NPC and Player module won't work properly.” All I want from this mod is the ability to make my own followers. I don't need them to have their own abilities or equipment, just the appearance. I'm just gonna hope that I can do that much without Papyrus Extender...
Update: I can use the piecemeal save and spawn followers just fine. Now I want to figure out how to make the characters look the way they do with ECE. I haven't used RaceMenu for years, I'm hooked on ECE sliders. Switching from ECE to Racemenu, my characters don't retain their original shape.
finally I found a way to make this mod work well in the LE version of Skyrim.
first of all we need a mod that includes followers, for example in this mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/85425 .. because in this castle mod, and several castle mods made by this creator use followers with bodies the same as in the game. and the goal of us having additional followers is just to use their body as a new follower generator.
first we need to create a separate savegame. one for spawning the new follower we have created and the other for creating a new follower. as well as every follower creation, must use a separate savegame slot.
the next thing after creating a new savegame slot, we need to copy the appearance of a follower or NPC from the mod that we have installed on our player using the proteus npc spell. navigate to the target then select appearance >>> copy npc appearance to player.
when it's done, after that you can edit it using the showracemenu (using the console command). but before editing, prepare the preset first, because after the player's appearance is overwritten by the follower's appearance that we are targeting, the player's appearance will be damaged, especially on the face, so that absolutely cannot be edited using the slider from the racemenu. after it has been edited, just fill in the name you want.
then using the proteus player spell, select save pc. wait until it's finished, then, save your game. after that, then load it into another savegame that we have provided before. in this savegame we make it the main savegame for gameplay and for spawning new followers that have been created.
after you have loaded it into the main savegame, use the proteus player spell then select load friendly NPC >>> "enter the name that you have saved" blah-blah-blah follow the procedure, especially in the character slot section provided by proteus. and done.
if you want to edit the follower, all you have to do is load it into the savegame where your follower was created. then do the editing there and finish with a different name. (I've never tried to override characters with the same name, so yeah, just in case).
to add more followers, load it into the savegame where the character was created >>> find a new NPC to copy its appearance >>> edit in racemenu >>> change the name you want >>> proteus player spell >>> save PC >>> save game in new slot >>> load to main savegame >>> proteus player spell >>> load new friendly PC >>> follow the procedure... and voila!
do as shown above to do it again, until you have lots of followers. lol.

Please, someone modify this to work with ECE instead of RaceMenu somehow... It would make all the difference in the world.
