Dang, again with this issue :( I don't get it, my SE backports run fine on my vanilla Skyrim LE installation. But people have this ctd issue with my other mod, the Magnus Gauntlet, too. But most people at least don't seem to have it. I can only imagine that it must be something particular to your modded setup. If I can compare two modded setups that have this ctd issue maybe it could narrow it down? For interest sake, does it crash on a vanilla setup for you as well? I'm sorry this has happened to you :/

Well i disabled all my mods one at the time and kept trying the armor, until my skyrim was completely stripped of ALL mods i had installed and  it STILL crashed every time i tried to equip it, I have no idea what is causing the issue

Could the smp xml that is in the non SMP version of the download be the issue? Is the SMP still attached to a nif? That may cause a ctd for anyone not using HDT.

Try and see if deleting the following items in the mod stops ctd. The xmp is vestigial and shouldn't be attached, but just delete it in case.

      hdtsmpLorthemarArmor.xml
      ivoryboots_gnd.nif
      ivorycuirass_gnd.nif
      ivorygauntlets_gnd.nif

I think I might know what the problem is, and why it only affects certain players. It is something I used to experience years ago, and never know why until I spend many hours investigating, and discovered it is a game engine bug that appears under certain conditions. Thankfully, there is also a fix. Please read on....

@Sunquick, in your Skyrimprefs.ini, what value do you have for "iTexMipMapSkip "? Would I be right in thinking it is a value greater than zero? For example, is it =1 or something like that?

@Kredans, I noticed you have saved the textures without mipmaps. I don't know if you are aware of a little known Skyrim engine bug, It occurs for players when they have a value for iTexMipMapSkip that is greater than 0 and loads in textures for things like clothes and armor (i.e. anything dynamically loaded while the game is running),, and those textures do not have mipmaps generated for them.
What I "think" happens, is that iTexMipMapSkip tells the game engine the number of mipmap levels to skip when a texture is loaded (it is part of Skyrims texture quality setting, like Ultra, high, medium, low, etc). So, for example, when iTexMipMapSkip =1, then all textures will have their 1st mipmap ignored. Thus, a 2048 texture will be loaded, and its highest level (2048) is ignored, and the remaining mipmap levels are stored in memory (i.e. it stores the 1024, 512, 256 etc mipmap levels into memory). However, when a texture is encountered with NO mipmaps generated, then the highest level mipmap is also the only texture available for it. Thus, the game engine skips the highest/only texture (2048), but there is nothing left to store in memory, and then CTD's.

To solve, I think you just need to ensure that all mipmaps are generated for all of your textures. That should stop players CTD'ing when equiping the armor., when they have a value of iTexMipMapSkip  that is greater than 0.

@Kredans, you may be able to reproduce the CTD that @Sunquick is experiencing, by simply changing your Skyrimprefs.ini so that iTexMipMapSkip =1, and then trying your mod. You will get either one of the following two effects. It will likely CTD, or, you "may" get coloured squared for the texture. Both of these effects is a manifestation of the game engine bug. Then, to fix, try producing mipmaps for all textures, and then try your mod again. You should find it works. When you've finished testing, you just need to reset your iTexMipMapSkip back to 0.

Edit: (my previous post said "iTexMipMapMinimum". It should have been 'iTexMipMapSkip'. I have now corrected the above text).

Thanks for the in-depth reply , I took a look at my Skyrimpefs.ini and I found that iTexMipMapMinimum=0, so I still don´t know what is happening, I can show you my Skyrimpefs.ini if you want and let you have a look, this stupid ctd is driving me insane

Sorry, I said the wrong value. It is iTexMipMapSkip (not iTexMipMapMinimum). What value do you have for iTexMipMapSkip instead?

Additionally, how much VRAM do you have on your graphics card, and do you have texture mods installed, which are loose files? Note that you mentioned you had disabled all other mods, but disabling esp's wont prevent loose file textures from loading. So, if the iTexMipMapSkip isn't your cause, then another possibility for your CTD's is that you are running out of VRAM. But we can investigate that one later.

Hello again , so anyway ,this is what it says on my ini " iTexMipMapSkip=0" and I have 496mb of VRAM , and also i did not explain myself very well, (my bad) when I said disabled, i meant removing all the mods I had, one  by one to see if there was any conflits, and the only texture mod I have at the moment is for auriel´s bow .
Also the ctd only happens when I try to equip the armor, I can have it my inventory  without any issuses

      Quote: "[...] and I have 496mb of VRAM "
I believe we've found the problem.
Are you running on an old PC, or a laptop or something? I'm surprised Skyrim even works at all, with only 0.5Gb of VRAM.
This mod uses 4K textures, and they are very large in size (they use 160Mb of texures, just for the armor!!!!! And if they have mipmaps, it would use 213Mb!). I think when you equip the armor, it is exceeding the amount of VRAM you have, and is crashing the game.
As a test, download this mod. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/12801
It is called "Ordenador" and is a desktop tool which allows you to reduce the size of textures, and will generate mipmaps (doing so, will help avoid triggering some game-engine bugs).

Then, using the textures from this "falmer armor" mod, copy all the textures from "skyrim\data\textures\elf" into a new folder on your desktop.
Run Ordenador.exe and a window should appear. Using the folder icon at the top, make it point to the new folder you have on your desktop containing the falmer armor textures. (We are going to reduce the size of the files, and create mipmaps for it).

Then, select the following settings in the textures tab.
Uncheck everything, except the "Textures" checkbox in "Optimizer/fixes" row.
      Now, check only the following 2 options;
      1. Check the option "Mipmaps (if not selected, keep the same as the original)"
      2. Check "resize down (reduces texture dividing by 2 width and height)".  This also has a dropdown. Change the dropdown to "if >1024".

Now, press "Start" and select "Yes" to resize images. It will now compress the files from 4K to 2K. Now, press "Done", and run it a second time, to compress it from 2K to 1K textures.
The individual files for the falmer armor should now be either 683Kb, or 1.366Mb in size.
Then, copy the files from that folder on your desktop, into your "Skyrim\data\textures\elf" directory, and it should overwrite the files.

This has reduced the textures of the falmer armor from 4K to 1K, and produced mipmaps for them. Hopefully, they should fit into VRAM now. We have gone from a minimum of 160Mb without mipmaps in the original mod, and reduced it to 13.3Mb with mipmaps, which is much more manageable.

Run Skyrim, and try and put the armor on again, and see if it works.

No problem! :-) It's good that we've found the cause of your CTD.

Something to be aware of for the future -> Note that the amount of VRAM on your graphics card is low, so if you aim to add further mods in future, in particular, ones which add additional graphics to your game in the form of meshes and textures, then the CTD issue is likely to return.

In fact, now that you are experienced with Ordenador, you will be able to control the amount of VRAM used by any mods you download. Many mods tend to have either unoptimized tetures, or those which are aimed at people with very high resolution PC monitors. For example, some armor and skin texture mods use 4K textures, which are aimed at people with 2560 pixel width monitors. However, people with 1920 width monitors will never be able to see that level of detail, and a 4K texture is just redundant and eats up VRAM which could be used for other things. So now, you will be able to convert any huge textures into smaller ones, and better utilize the VRAM for your game.

tattwood I can't thank you enough! This issue has been driving me crazy for months xD And thank you for your insight into mipmaps and creating them with ordenator! I will definitely have to update my mod textures in the future. In the meantime, I'm stick'ing this post for anyone experiencing this issue.

      @Kredans. Glad to help!

I know how frustrating some of these random CTD's are. I've been through the same thing. After many, many hours of trial and error, I finally got to the bottom of some of these issues. So, when I saw the same thing happening with your mod, I thought i'd see if I could help out by passing on the things i've learned. Even after 10 years of Skyrim being released, there are a few bugs that still catch people out, and the "mipmap" bug is one of those which isn't well known. I've found that lack of mipmaps can cause a range of issues, from CTD's, coloured blocks, and can even create the "grey face" NPC bug (in that particular case, a facegen tint mask would be missing its mipmaps. Hence, a bug occurs where the grey face bug appears at distance, but looks ok when the NPC is near the camera).

How to get HDT SMP for LE.

    The Link

After downloading it, first, install via mod manager (It will say no valid Game data. Right-click on Skyrim, then on Data and click on set as data directory. It should say "The content of <data> looks valid". That's the first part. The 'd3dcompiler_47.dll' should be manually placed in the game folder, where TES5.exe is.
