As mentioned, this is a combination of several mods that were not yet posted. Here are some notes on how to proceed.
Of necessity, there are a number of portal doors leading to diverse destinations. It is advised to save before opening them. Similarly, if you notice lag or disappearing textures (purple or black objects), it’s definitely time to restart the game, but you’ve done all that before.
When you look for the hidden steps, they are pretty well obscured. However, you won’t have to stray far from the “crossroads” up on the ridge. If you gave up the claw, fear not, there should be another somewhere nearby.
To be clear, you won't find mad dungeons here, or complicated quests. You will be able to travel, explore new sites, grab some loot and enjoy the views, all for the same no price.
Alex, do you have this version: Passages of the Dovakiin - Map Markers Shown <- with this, it shows on your map, when you run the cursor over it. (I will also PM a map) ~GMF~
Well I can't find it lol.. not saying that I gave up or anything. I use frostfall mod and I keep freezing to death running around that area trying to find your secret passage.
Short answer: The steps are hiding behind the trees.
I just posted v. 5.8. There is a special version with all added exterior map markers visible on your map from the start of the game.
You'll still hear the tambourine sound and see a notification that you've discovered them. After that, you can fast travel there. The entry is just called "hidden steps". I also PMd you a map, so you don't freeze to death. ~GMF~
George, You are really fast! Just go about your normal Dragonborn business. The note arrives with anything else the courier delivers. After he goes, just check your inventory. You'll see that an "interesting note" has appeared. To make him come, shouting indoors and waiting a few times will speed things up. ~GMF~
Hello SC, Thanx for the tip. This is an unused reference, which has no effect but I'll post 5.7 with the notation removed. And yes, I just tested it again anyway. ;-) ~GMF~

Remember to save often with all the transitions that are available.
