i noticed that aiming while sneaking doesnt have aim sound, dwarven one has no sound at all, so i edit the hkx and add soundplay.wpncrossbowaim to npc root
This mod truly is a game changer. I use it with crosshair disabled, and I aim just like real life ancient crossbows : with the bolt. Oh, and also be sure to use a mod that disable the auto-aim. That way, it's very rewarding when you are accurate with your shots, especially the difficult ones.
So, I've been using this a while and I have to say this: Why did it take this long to get a mod that lets our character shoulder/sight their crossbow? Were 11 million sets of barely-there skimpy armor really that much more important to the modding community? Because this is bloody essential.
Seriously, for the first time since Dawnguard introduced the silly things, I've been using the crossbow. Mostly because I can actually aim the stupid thing and not be relying 100% on the crosshair, handwaving away my character's insistance on "Dirty Harry hip-firing" the crossbow as being "he wants a challenge" or "he's seen one too many plays where the hero does this" while secretly hating the fact that Bethesda never thought that ADS with a crossbow mattered.
So, thank you. With one mod, you've fixed an entire class of weapons for me. Crossbows are no longer just for companions to fire, I can use them as well. Sure, the bow is stealthier, but let's face it, not everyone wants to play stealth archer. Plus, crossbows, poisons, and dragons all just go together perfectly, especially as I can now aim at the dragon.
How can i adjust the hight? It doesnt really line up well with this one https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/70422 Oh and a question. Is it possible to change the animation for that specific crossbow?
Changing the camera height won't probably work as expected, if you follow the link to my GitHub you'll find the 3ds Max projects of the custom animations, you can try adapting them to your crossbow, but be ready for some head scratching if it's your first time. Otherwise the best I can think of is setting Dynamic Animation Replacer to replace the custom animations with vanilla ones when a specific crossbow is equipped (or the other way round, not sure what would be more convenient).
I can't believe that after all that time spent on INI and HUD tweaks this was the mod I needed all along. Damn, man, million thanks! Crossbows are finally playable without quirks. How come this solution never occurred to anyone in years?
