<p>Thank you! The best mod ever made. I wish I had the skill to do one like this for Oblivion, since that is my favorite, but having no knowledge, I only got as far as extrating the textures.bsa, editing manually some textures in gimp. Did you do use a script to pixalated them in gimp/photoshop? Or did all manually? If you ever read this and have the time could you post a rough/quick tutorial/step/checklist especially on the avarage setting you do on the normal maps. How you did Iand what programs did you use?</p> Edit: I can't see to figure out how not do overdo normal maps.
I used Paint.net manually, since I am not smawrt enough to make a script. For the normal maps, download the "Normal Maps Plus" extension for Paint.net. The settings I used for the normal maps in this project are X= 0.02, Y= 0.05, Z= 0.01. If I had even more patience, I coulda worked wonders, but alas, I am but one good looking man making this. Once you have those things, go to town! Choose what sprites or textures you want to use, replace the Skeeeeerim texture, make a Normal Map with the numbers above (not all textures have a NM, but the majority do), and it should come out fine, like mine. Pro Tip: Shoot the Dragon until it dies. Wait... Pro Tip: Fortunately, Skyrim is pretty drab, using black and/or gray for the majority of its stone. If you find a neat wall texture you want to use for say, a Castle wall, but its red or blue, drain the color away to black or white.
I am doing a similar project (reducing textures to an average of their colour) using Paint.NET as well! I have been using a program called Materialize for Normal maps where necessary, but I found that by saving with a different compression in Paint.NET I could get the proper Normal Map transparency.
Im a real sucker for that seven sages floor design inside the temple in Whiterun. Any chance we could get that as a separate file at all? Im debating on using this graphics mod because I'm doing a Zelda style playthrough and dont know if I wanna make it retro or not, but that seven sages pattern is awesome as hell!
I recommend using this with the pixelrific "Old School ENB - An ENB for those of us stuck in the past. Arena-Kings Field esque ENB" https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/101170
