I liked the conversation between Sophie and Wulver, it was nicely illustrated and instructive.
I can roughly remember the meaning of Tiefling from an earlier story or perhaps from an earlier comment. But an Aasimar is still new to me, even though I am already familiar with a "demigod".
The last picture puzzles me in connection with the previous story. On the one hand, I've seen Wulver like this before. But Wulver and Sophie have already left the temple. Is that a dream picture or the announced help for Wulver? The coming episodes will surely show it.
Tiefling and Aasimar are standard Dungeons and Dragons lore - it varies depending on which type of pen and payer version you are working with. But in general it is what I outlined above. They are not all that powerful. Really just another race with a few perks (much like Argonians or Dunmer, as two examples, have some perks to them). Wulver has a few extra because of his story. His basic Tiefling perks, however, are minor empathy (can, once a day, cast low level calm spell and animal charm spell), has night vision, good at illusion and stealth but bad with large weapons (penalty), resistant to frost but increased damage from fire (25% weakness to fire damage) which comes from his lineage, and a penalty to charm and personality - which he had to work very hard to overcome (the penalty comes from being an outsider and most folks being afraid or mistrustful because of his dark heritage - although it has no influence on his alignment).
Wings, ears, horns - all from his bloodline. The eye, however, is from his fight and then healing by the mystic of an alien race on another world.
On the images - I took a little artistic freedom with those. They were unrelated to the story and meant more as dream-like images of Wulver's internal mind and how Arkay may see him or how Wulver see's himself at some level. That sense of freedom from chains and order as shown by being able to fly and soar in the sky).
In the next chapter I will give a small spoiler and say Sofie learns about his wings and they are shown for the first time in one of his actual stories outside of dreams, visions, or gargoyle impersonations
Sofie is ever curious one, so no wonder she is so intrigued in Wulver’s mystery, after all she has seen Daedra but she has never met someone like him. It was great to know more of Wulver from his own perspective and I enjoyed the lore about Tiefling and their counterpart – Aasimar, very interesting information. Of course Wulver has some secrets and information he doesn’t want to share and being good at reading people emotions Sofie understands and respects it. And Wulver is right about not dwelling in the past, it has already gone so it is better focus on present and future. Also it was very intriguing bit about Wulver’s companions – fox and wolf. They are very mysterious being indeed.
And looks like that in the end, given the words, Florentius might indeed feel hope now by knowing that the help is coming, so he won’t be feel despair.
I will be looking forward for the next chapter and thank you for sharing your wonderful work!
The Wolf and The Fox. They are not super powerful by any means - they are just spirits but they are rather special spirits to Wulver. They, for reasons of their own, attached themselves to him. Since Wulver, if you remember from his talk with Sofie in the prison, is a low-level empath himself he has good gut instincts for people and creatures (although he isn't always right and has sadly made a few mistakes trusting someone he should not have). These two nature spirits have always felt benevolent, if a bit mischievous and chaotic, towards him. Watching over him, sometimes pulling pranks on him, and following him from world to world. He is not sure how they do that but he thinks its because they somehow bound themselves to his own soul and thus are pulled wherever he goes.
The spirits can take different forms although they are always an animal of some sort. Sometimes they stay as invisible spirits on the world or only one will appear, but one way or another they are around. Their favorite forms to take are the wolf and fox pair.
I will say they are also very fond of Sofie and see in her a kindred spirit. She is filled with a light that attracts them to her and I would not be surprised if other nature spirits sometimes follow her around even if she is not aware of them.
We will learn more about Florentius situation (or at least some theories that the group has about his situation) in the next chapter. I want to keep Molag and Arkay very much in the background in the story. They are out there, of course, but really acting through their agents/followers. In this case Arkay is working with Wulver and his team while Molag is using his own servants. They can only act indirectly and even then only through dreams or while at one of their shrines. For this story anyhow.
One does have to think about the future, of course, but excessive worry isn't healthy in Wulver's opinion, hence that comment. We are always in the present moving through time I think.
Thanks again and more to come!
I had Sofie originally asking him about his birth world (the world he first came from) and some more about his chaos heritage ... but decided I am not ready to share that about him at this point. Wulver is a rather personal character for me and have become a bit protective towards him. So for now like his past to remain a bit of a mystery. But plan on dropping hints here and there :)
