Love this!
I really like how you wrote Rathe in this story though. Closer to what he was like earlier only better as he is no longer as obsessed. Cool, calm, capable. Astrid had better watch out. But sadly she has all the leverage she needs to twist Rathe around her finger ... Fleur .. Rathes achilles heel and his biggest weakness and downfall. If you get the idea I still don't like her ... your right Although don't take that to mean I think she is a bad story character ... on now she is an awesome character as far as your writing goes - very well developed. If she was poorly done I probably wouldn't want to see her dead so much
Great new story and looking forward to seeing how this will all work out. I never did any of these quests, nor have I read about them on Wiki, so will be pretty interesting (although of course I also won't know what is your part versus the game part but that is okay lol)
It'll be interesting times ahead and i'm glad you noticed / appreciated Rathe's return to his more level-headed, cool assassin demeanour. That was intentional and very fun to write. My cold, badass boy is back!
dammit.
Very good, jess :-)
Naaawww, somehow that doesn't seem at ALL like Rathe's particular style^^....and then guess who walks in with her two favorite "student-underlings" in tow, TOTALLY ruining poor Rathe's once-tasty and hearty meal by making his nastily-acidic bile rise to his now-burning throat, and destroying his short-lived peace-and-quiet?^^....They HAD to have been tracking him. You'd think that Rathe should have been more diligent at covering his movements by NOW, after ALL he's been through?! Stupid, sloppy and just plain unprofessional!
He's practically begging to be a typical "Murphy-magnet"!
Dammit... Rathe gets suckered yet again! Arrrggghhh! When will he ever learn?!
Yet another stinking load of bogus bullsh*t, essentially an "invented crisis"...damn, but would Astrid EVER make an excellent Politician...^^ "...The sky is falling..." etc...^^
Seriously, I remember mentioning something about "delicious drama" back in that awesomely, wickedly funny Chapter #11 ^^....
....I loved how Darius, his eyes twinkling, just ravenously ate up the "delicious drama" between Astrid/Signe and Rathe, most likely thinking with total glee and joy:
"Good! Focus on HER, for love or hate, I couldn't possibly give a rat's *ss either way, and THAT way, you can damned-well leave MY Fleur alone, heh heh heh!" >rubs his hands together happily< ^^
He is clearly not stupid, otherwise he wouldn't be a Mage to begin with.
The Black, white and grey symbolism is positively rife in this chapter, and in the last shot, sweet Fleur looks like she's just about to burst into tears, as Rathe's downcast face betrays his resignation at being SUCKERED yet again^^....
Fleur IS correct, however: Rathe is simply TOO good at what he does: ending lives.
"That man was born to end lives!" -- (Nestor's reference to Achilles, in "Troy" )
Endorsed. Warm thanks, Jess, and cheers, dear!
And yep, Darius has his own agenda (her name is Fleur) but he's definitely not a dumb lad. Shrewd and intelligent (look who his father is after all) ! So I think Rathe would do well to keep an eye on him.
I like what you saw in the last shot - that's EXACTLY how I felt about that last shot when I took it, the sadness in Fleur's face, the resignation in Rathe's. You're too good my dear!! Thanks for your lovely comments yet again sweet one!
just fantastic
Wonderful atmosphere we can sense the tension between them
Interesting that when Rathe thought what if fat turned different and he was a woodcutter in Riverwood, it gave me a feel of shout out to Leif's tale, because I think that without tragedies in his past, Rathe might be actually be like Leif... Any way there is no rest for the heroes and wicked alive, so mind manipulator called Astrid walks to ruin his plan, dragging Fleur along as a measure of psychological pressure, and Darius probably was not called, but being in love with Fleur he kept her company just in case... And as much as Rathe likes to think everything is over, to tear out the love in his heart is much harder and that what Astrid aimed for. Glad that at least she got payback from Arnie for her cheating and treachery... Yet her little is also shattering apart due to Cicero and Night Mother and she desperately seek way to preserve control, being a control freak that she is, using everything to her own benefit and I think she would gladly see Rathe eliminated because of him being a troublemaker and very possibly true Listener. I will look forward to see how it turns out and thank you for sharing your awesome work!
Yes I think Rathe could have turned out like Leif if not for what happened to him, though I tend to see him more as turning into something like a Jarl; he was of noble blood and I don't think in ANY lifetime could've been happy as a woodcutter of farmer. It's not in his nature.
So now he has the same old issues back in his life but with a new perspective to deal with them. Fleur back before him - but no longer does he see her as white. Astrid back before him - but no longer is she black. It's all shades of grey now.
Thanks for you comments and for continuing to be so interested in Rathe's story! Hugs dear!
he was leaving he was at peace but no!!!
great story my fear cant wait for the next one...
