WorldEncounters – Random or otherwise

WorldEncounters are leveled as in Skyrim (run away if it looks bigger than you!). However some of the bad guys in Shumer that you may recognise are not the same as in Skyrim (eg Edimmu may look like skeletons but they start at level 7) I will do a bestiary on the wiki at some point.

Underground Encounters are semi leveled and not so forgiving, low level characters beware. Usually consist of a staged encounter followed by random ones.

Quests in General

I am not a fan of quest markers except when returning to a questgiver so don't expect many.  Npc's or books/journals/letters will generally give you enough information to work out where to go (allthough they do assume you know where the main places are) although sometimes it may not be entirely accurate.

Many of the  quests and dialogues are not available until you have completed "Introduction to the Gods". This is what is known in the movies as a contrived plot point to move the story on!

If an NPC in a quest asks you to 'come back tomorrow' you need to 'sleep' to further the quest; if they say 'come back in a few days' you just need to go way from the location and come back again at some point.

Miscellaneous Quests

These short quests are similar to those in Skyrim; there are however
some significant differences. They are not all random so:

  • Some give information relevant to future events.

  • Some are prerequisites for other quests to come.

  • They introduce you to characters that may prove useful to talk to during future quests (particularly Kuyu).

  • With some of them you do not get a second chance, if you refuse the quest you don't get to come back. I always thought it odd that you could refuse to deliver something for somebody and then come back later and they had kept their life on hold waiting for you.

  • In the cities, New Eridu, Warka, Dagana and Lagar you generally have to do something for the Town Clerk (Shukur) first before the people will trust you with tasks.
  • There are player homes available but apart from the one in Dagana Landing there are quests to complete before they become for sale.

There is a list of the quests and the quest givers in the Spoiler section of the wiki. Much like in Skyrim these small quests are activated one at a time as you visit and revist particular locations.

Dialogue

The narrative story related dialogue is structured to be dependent on having previously heard or read a piece of information which will trigger a relevant dialogue with an NPC. eg If you get a rumour from an Innkeeper you will then be able to ask other NPCs about it. As with quests those outside Kholinor will be more talkative if you have been there.

Innkeepers

Innkeepers will usually give you two rumours a visit (usually upto a max of 8 over four visits), make sure you listen to both of them as they will not re-appear on other visits.

Books, Journals and Letters

Some books, journals and letters have information relevant to future events some are just part of the general flow of life in Shumer. As a minimum you should read the Fragmentary Tales as they giving information mostly relevant to the story arc.

Some letters and notes are written in  Ancient scripts. These are translatable with some effort (find Nabau's Notes); if you get stuck (or you are not looking for that much of a challenge) I have buried the key in the Spoiler section of the wiki and the transalations deeper.

Miscellaneous Stuff

There are a couple of caves that are a hard scrabble up the mountain side. They are doable but I doubt a follower will make it (mine didn't).
