I believe it's completely wrong and against the spirit of modding. I hope that, with enough public outrage, it can be reversed.

Regardless, my mods are and always will be free. If a project I'm participating in decides to "paywall" itself, I'll leave immediately. Donations and premium memberships or whatever are fine with me, but we need to make a statement against pay-to-play modding.
