For anyone having an issue with Vortex automatically overwriting the extension with an update, edit the info.json file in this extension to have a version number greater than the the version number of the default extension (which is currently 1.0.2). So for example, set it to 2.0.0.
I had to manually install mod slot support by downloading and installing with vortex with the folder icon and then download this extension Auto Version manually and then install that with the folder icon in the extensions section of vortex. Then to prevent restarts of vortex from getting rid of the extension, I had to change the json file in the extensions folder to say 2.0.0. For anyone else who struggles like I did.
On Mod Slot Support's page, for vortex users, it says to go here. Then here, it says, when it gets to Mod Slot Support, to go to the linked mod page.
This is an infinite loop. I'm not sure why no one mentioned this. When I used Vortex to install Mod Slot Support -after- having installed your "better extension" for Vortex, it installs it into its own folder. Of course, this breaks everything because it isn't in datalocal then, so the Deploy bugs out, the button for it stays grey in the dashboard and never populates with the actual executable, etc.
What is -required- for Vortex users is to install Mod Slot Support -manually- into datalocal, and then do everything else. This was not clear anywhere.
When a vortex user is required to install something manually, and not using vortex, it kind of defeats the purpose of using a mod manager for your mods. It's weird that no one really said anything about this issue all this time. Though Simon437's screenshot does show the greyed out Mod Slot Support button pretty clearly.
Anywho, just thought I'd mention this. I trouble shot it myself and figured it out. Of course, the mods are appreciated. Thank you.
Oh, also, after installing your extension, the Black Tree Gaming Greedfall extension is still there, and still enabled. Yours is just also enabled. I don't know if that matters, but it may be confusing to anyone going to look for the one with your name on it that there are two entries.
Thanks for pointing this out. I thought I tested a clean install. In the DOCS tab, I even talk about the default vortex behavior. But maybe I overlooked something. Or maybe the default vortex behavior has changed since I did my testing. I re-read the readme and sure enough, I never explicitly say that users must do it manually. But honestly, I didn't realize that was an issue.
Anyway, I've remedied the problem by marking Mod Slot Support manual download only (No longer has an install with Vortex Button). That should prevent issues if the default Vortex Extension behavior changes.
Thank you, it seems your comment is the only one here with proper directions on how to get this to work.
If you install mod slot support manually, then the "better vortex extension" install fine, updates fine, and when Vortex restarts, the "better mod extension" shows up and is working.
So folks if your having issues with is mod, make sure to read the comment above, works fine.

When using this in conjunction with Mod Slot Manager, I'm not seeing any zip file anywhere named "game-greedfall.zip" what should this have been downloaded with? I've done manual downloads and vortex downloads for this mod. The Mod Slot Manager looks to have installed perfectly as it should have
on the Mod Slot Support Page it says to download the extension here first and then on here it says to download Mod Slot Support first. which is true?
and no matter what i do the extension just won't download, it first downloads as a 7z that must be extracted as game-greedfall.zip (what's inside the 7z), and then from vortex extension browse to this zip. the extension before restarting shows but after restarting it disappears.
i'm new to the game so there are zero mods installed.
I downloaded the file and tried to follow the tutorial. But the first problem was already, that there is no zip-file named "Greedfall". I just put everything from the extracted local-folder, in the Games local-folder.
But neither does anything show up in the extension-list nor the mod-list. No mention of "Dheuster" or "Mod Slot Support" after restarting it a few times. No new button in my Dashboard.
I tried all the instructions It just doesnt work. The mod there as Mod Support extention in the Vortex. I am pressing play button but it tells me to run it from directory. I am running it from directory and same warning again.

Error: Not an extension, info.json missing

if this is a new extension it may not have been approved yet.
about as far as I got right there.
