I had a few mods in mind that I would install first before even beginning my playthrough. This is one of them. It's the best reshade that aligns with the originally intended atmosphere. I opted for the less grimy version because I have a weak rig. The graphics were already bad so I didn't want to make my already blurry game more grimier. All in all, this is a must mod to get the definitive experience
for anyone curious about how it looks in motion, i've added a video to the Video section from my youtube channel which shows some environments with the filter in action. mostly outdoor environments from the beginning of the game, but there's a few interiors as well.
i just beat the game today and i'm going to do some NG+ runs on easy, once i set up some saves for every area of the game i was going to do something like that. this video was more just to show off the ambience/sound of the game itself but i just happened to use the reshade because of how great it looks.
its very accurate, cograts, but i think its to recognize that the base game already looks almost the exact same in terms of color grading, every modern game now is afraid of making a game look desaturated or a bit monochromatic, they all look colorful and "base".
the only big mistake they made is to not put a (optional) stronger film grain in the graphics options, because if you look closely the game actually has a bit of grain, its too subtle tho.
My only gripe really is just how in HDR it raises the max luminance substantially. I was hitting 800 nits on specular highlights and with this preset added it rose it to 1200 nits :D I think it's the PD80_04_Contrast_Brightness_Saturation. I also do think that it takes away a bit tooo much of the color, so I changed the saturation level to be a bit less aggressive as I was looking at SH2 Enhanced Edition and comparing.
Wow great! You can upload the preset on nexus if you wish, or send me the link and I'd update it and credit you in the description. I'd love to try it too.
I ended up not using it because it needs a lot of tinkering in HDR. Because if you're already using Black Floor Fix etc it kind of "undos" in a sense, so raised blacks, etc, so it does need a bit of work to get it to look proper with HDR.
I'm gonna work on it as soon as I finish the game and if I get it in a good place I'll let you know
I usually make my own reshade presets, but this one is just so good that I'll probably just stick with it or use it as a base. It really captures that OG vibe and enhances this remake. Great job!
Man this is truly amazing like if they made a remake with the original art direction it's insane. Truly makes it feel like PS2 visuals but higher resolution instead of just an asset flip with a scary filter sounds like i'm sucking you off but it's for real a great job having high hopes on this I love games that ain't scared of using filters and noise to f*#@ up their visuals feels more dreamy and I think a lot of devs now don't do it just to show off their graphic fidelity.
Ok, this has insane potential! Quick question, I already have reshade in the game because I'm playing in HDR and using Lilium's Black Floor Fix to lower the lower portion of 10 nits into 0 nits. Which makes the game look fantastic and gets rid of the disgusting grey filter.
If I was to add this, do you know how I can add it without replacing what I already have? I'm mainly interested in the grain and desaturation
Honestly I have never tried combining two reshade presets. One thing you could try is to install my reshade on another random game, then go inside the reshade folder of that game and copy the effect files and paste them into SH2R's reshade folder. Then you can try opening my .ini and copying it's contents to your reshade ini. First, the list of effects that you'd put at the end of the already existing effects of your .ini file (the @PD80 effects)
I opted out of using the color temperature part of your mod, since I felt it did make things look a little like a bad white balance, but WOW. The grain, greening of the white hues, and desat completely changed the atmosphere and spirit of the already stellar looking base game.
MAJOR thanks for this! (Will be tinkering with noise a bit though, I think it should be denser)

Overall, great job though!

It should work, but make sure to back up your SH2 reshade folder in case it doesn't. Hope that helps!
