Just leaving my experience here: I actually deleted the shader folder of the mod. The xbrz filter IMO looks better and more faithful to the 3DS version than just using nearest neighbour on 3D textures like in Venti's wings, which I guess was probably using bilinear on 3DS. Apart from that the mod is awesome! I installed the optional item icon files and the game finally look playable, lol. I just wish someone made a mod to replace the button prompts with the ones from RF3S, the buttons on 4S look incredibly small and unreadable on my steam deck oled, even when compared to my actual 3DS.
I have one question though. When using the mod, the HUD changes everything but the HP/RP part of the HUD, it stays original. It seems to be a language issue, if I play on english everything works as it should, but not in french or german for example. Is there anything I can do to make it work in other languages?
It probably just needs to be renamed to match whatever language you'd like to use. I'd look into it myself, but it may take me quite a while because Hurricane Milton decided to make the local lake a part of my house, lol. If you're comfortable using the file unpacker, the file you're looking for should be in the "bundle muteki"? Something like that. It's the localization menus and stuff. It probably just needs _deu or _fra appended to the end instead of the _eng, but I'm not 100% sure on that, or what abbreviations are used for each language.
I checked the files after the unpacking (didn't know there is an unpacker for RF4 or I would have checked it first), but I'm not exactly sure, what file I have to look for. Simply changing the files with the _eng to _deu/_fra in the mod folder didn't do anything. Guess I changed the wrong files, it stays the same, even on english, so yeah. Or it's a bit more complex..
Seeing this mod has me wondering how possible it would be to use a tool like Stable Diffusion to upscale these backgrounds and maybe even add some additional detail for HD?
Well, everyone has their personal preference. I strongly dislike the filter they used because it smears too much detail in my opinion... but there are people who willingly use it in emulators all the time, so there's that. I'd rather have a more pixelated look in line with the 3DS release even if it is a lower resolution.
thanks for asking this was so confused by the posted screen shots seeming to be in reverse from worse - better and was like wait what... But ya I suppose makes sense if you a 3ds big Fan makes sense to prefer that style.
Granted a couple things do look odd and can see benefit of mod in general for them, but only like a couple tiny things like making it so the plants no longer look like they were literally painted on the ground instead of being more natural looking/"real" blending.
Would it be possible to see the Switch button icons from the Switch version as an option? For some reason they are different in the PC version and look worse, and it has incorrect button prompts you can't change if you play with the Switch control scheme. (This part is a quick edit after doing a quick test. They swap the X and Y buttons, but do not swap the A and B buttons)
Sorry about the late reply. It may take me a bit because the buttons are baked into the menu images itself in the switch version. It should be possible, though.
Nice to hear! Really enjoying the mod too. I thought I would just stick with how the game looks normally but putting the mod on really just makes everything look so much better.
Just letting you know that I finally got that done on this page. I'd open up the configuration tool and try to rebind those face buttons (seriously wtf was Marvelous doing), but if it's being an aggravation the buttons are just PNG files so they're simple to switch around if needed.
Thank you! I might end up resizing them myself a bit since they seem too small, but I'm really happy to see this fix. Now I only hope to see a fix for RF5 someday, but its even worse in that one alongside the ugly face buttons.
THANK YOU FOR THIS MOD! Ever since getting the steam ver i was hopping someone would just mod in the 3ds textures so i can have my pixelated textures back. Now to hope that someone can fix the whole audio issue with the port. Once again, thank you!
I normally don't leave comments on mods, but I feel like I have to in this circumstance. The effort that went into this is insane, especially for a game that's this niche, where it's unlikely that you'll receive the recognition and thanks that you deserve. So, thank you for making this. This is amazing.

Stay safe out there!❤️

To each their own.
is this bug or something i did wrong?
EDIT: I've updated the main mod to fix it and uploaded a separate hotfix.
Thank you again for the report.
So, thank you for making this. This is amazing.
