About this mod

This mod allows users to set a FIXED adaptive difficulty setting to each difficulty level so the difficulty is consistent throughout the experience.

NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE REFRAMEWORK FOR RE8 INSTALLED ALREADY FOR THIS MOD TO WORK.

This mod allows the user to select any rank for any difficulty they want.

There are two ways to do so now:

  • You may directly modify the "rank" value in the "reframework/data/RE8_AdaptiveDifficultySelector_Configs/gameRankConfigs.json
  • Alternatively, while the game is running you may now open ReFramework's UI (default hotkey is "insert key").
Then you can scroll down to the "Script Generated UI" drop down.  Click it.  And there will be difficulty rank sliders that will allow you to set the game rank for each difficulty within the confined range of possible ranks.  To save the values, click "Save Settings".

The ReFramework UI sliders will update the difficulty in real-time now so you don't have to reset the game to change the preferred fixed adaptive difficulty rank.

The normal adaptive difficulty game rank possibilities:

Assisted: Rank 0 - 2
Standard: Rank 2 - 7
Hardcore: Rank 7 - 8
Village of Shadows: Rank 9 (always stays on 9)

You can TECHNICALLY set any difficulty to any rank with this mod.  And it works, regardless of the game's normal rules.  Enemies aggression, speed, damage, accuracy, knife durability, ammo drop quantities, etc. are ALL affected by the game rank.

But the point is that you can now set a fixed difficulty level for each in-game difficulty to your liking.  And it will remain consistent throughout the entire experience.

How to install:

1. Download ReFramework for RE8: https://github.com/praydog/REFramework/releases
  •  I always use this github release page as you will get the most up-to-date release versions.  Download the "RE8.zip" file from the list under "Assets"

2. Download this mod from the files tab.

3. For ReFramework, open the "RE8.zip" file and only copy the "dinput8.dll" and paste it into the directory where RE8.exe is located.
  • You can find this from Steam by right-clicking the game in your library and selecting "Manage"->"Browse local files".

4. For this mod, open the downloaded zip file ("Adaptive Difficulty Selector <a bunch of numbers>.zip").
  • Copy the "reframework" folder.
  • Paste the folder into the same location as ReFramework's "dinput8.dll".  That is, the location where RE8.exe is located.

Once the mod is installed properly there are now two methods to modify the difficulties:

How to edit (In-Game Editor Method - MORE Recommended):
1. Simply open RE8 after installing the mods.

2. The UI for ReFramework will pop-up.  Once it's done loading resize if necessary by clicking the bottom right of the panel and dragging.

3. Scroll to the last option ("Script Generated UI") and click it.

4.  You can modify each difficulty in real-time during gameplay due to the nature of how RE8 calculates game rank (every frame regardless of action) the game rank will be updated instantly.

NOTE: You can of course, set any values within range for any difficulty and the game will treat it as normal.  You could be on Casual and use 9
(Village of Shadows difficulty's highest possible value) and the game would effectively be as hard as the highest difficulty possibility on Casual (oddly enough) for the entirety of the game until you change this value.

How to edit (Manual File Method - Less Recommended):
1.  For now, to modify the difficulties manually to a fixed game rank, go into the folder path you pasted into the game's directory:

2. The file to go to will be "reframework/data/RE8_AdaptiveDifficultySelector_Configs".

3. From there you'll see a "gameRankConfig.json" file.  Open it.

4. You can modify the game rank from 1 - 9 for each difficulty.

5. Then whenever you're playing in-game and you select that difficulty it's real underlying adaptive difficulty rank will be fixed to the numbers you set here.

You're ready to play the game.  Have fun!
