He's pissed that the reshade was shared in Nexus, and that he had to create an account to get the file.

Seems like you can't use this with the HD mod project. Causes nonstop crashing.

Edit: it works. I had to remove qUINT during install. Solved the crashing.

Having an issue with dh_uber_rt.fx failing to compile when I launch the game. I'm sure I can live without whatever the effect is, the problem is that it causes ReShade to take forever compiling, so I have to wait several minutes for the preset to apply. It shows "Error X4509: maximum sampler register index exceeded, target has 16 slots, manual bind to slot s16 failed" and I have no idea what that could possibly mean. I guess I'll just try deleting the effect and see if that affects anything, but if there's a fix that'd be great.

You don't need to keep all Reshade effects available. You'll notice that these presets only actually use a small number of them, and the one you mentioned Is likely outdated and not in use by any modern presets. To make the error message go away, hit 'home,' right-click the effect with the error (highlighted in red), navigate to the folder, and simply delete the file. Don't worry, you likely were never going to use that effect anyway, so you're not missing out on anything.

If you're trying to use the "Colorful" preset and have low FPS, read this. It should be fixed for you by the end of Part 1, but if not, keep reading.

    ***PART 1***

    Before we begin:
     - For the best appearance, download and install RE4 HD Project (look up a tutorial, if needed).
     - Download and install Reshade (5.1.0 or newer).
     - Complete all of the OP's instructions. Make sure you did not skip any steps.
     - Do not enable any other effects for now.

RTGI is considered one of the best effects for RE4. If you've installed it (there are tutorials online), try disabling all other effects in Reshade EXCEPT for RTGlobalillumination [qUINT_rtgi.fx]. Is it below 60 FPS without any other effects enabled? If so, then this could be your problem, and you'll need to disable it. While RTGI is one of the most visually impactful effects, it is also one of the most performance-intensive. Don't worry, you can still get great effects without it. Don't disable it unless you have to, though. If it runs fine by itself, keep it enabled and follow the rest of this guide.

The next step to improving your FPS is to make sure you don't have any duplicate effects. Running multiple instances of the same effect can seriously slow down your performance. Select the "colorful" preset. If you see any duplicates, those are unintentional, and you need to get rid of them. You can't just leave one copy enabled and disable the other, as presets will enable all effects sharing the same name on startup. In Reshade, right-click the duplicate, navigate to the extra FX file, and delete it.

Next, disable some effects that are similar to others. The following are used to enhance the color, brightness, contrast, glow, and depth in addition to other effects in the preset that already enhance those features.
    - Vibrance.fx (color)
    - Levels.fx (brightness and contrast)
    - PPFX_Bloom.fx (glow)
    - PPFX_SSDO.fx (depth)
    - GloomAO.fx (depth)

I wasn't happy about it, but my ancient computer forced me to disable my two favorite effects in this preset. If you're willing to make the sacrifice, you can do the same:
     - qUINT_dof.fx (blur)
     - qUINT_rtgi.fx (RTGI)

Done. Your game should still look great and hopefully run smoother. If you're hitting 60 FPS now, feel free to try re-enabling some of those effects one by one while monitoring your game's performance. You might not need to disable all of them (I re-enabled Vibrance and Levels). Also, some of the effects are bound to the 'c' key, which can interfere with gameplay (dodging with x+c). In Reshade, right-click each effect with the letter 'c' next to it to unbind the key before playing.

    ***PART 2***

    Still running slow?
Try disabling some other effects in the "colorful" preset. I'll try to list them from least essential to most essential. Start from the top of the list, disabling them one by one, and work your way down until you hit a constant 60 FPS.

    1. Tint [Sepia.fx]: Gives a brownish color tint.
    2. Cartoon [Cartoon.fx]: Gives the game a stylized look. Might not be necessary.
    3. Vignette [Vignette.fx]: Adds a shadow around the screen's edges. Removing it might not have a huge visual impact.
    4. FilmGrain2 [FilmGrain2.fx]: Adds a grainy look to the image. Not everyone likes this effect, and it might be non-essential for clarity.
    5. HDR [FakeHDR.fx]: Tries to simulate HDR. While it can improve contrast, other shaders might do it better.
    6. SurfaceBlur [SurfaceBlur.fx]: Blurs the image slightly. Depending on its settings, this might not be very essential.
    7. Levels [Levels.fx]: Adjusts the brightness and contrast. You might not need this if you have other tone-mapping effects active.
    8. Curves [Curves.fx]: Adjusts contrast. Again, can overlap with other contrast-adjusting shaders.
    9. Vibrance [Vibrance.fx]: Increases the intensity of colors. Useful, but Colourfulness might achieve similar results.
    10. Colourfulness [Colourfulness.fx]: Boosts color intensity. If you have to choose, this looks slightly better than Vibrance, in my opinion.
    11. PPFX Bloom [PPFX_Bloom.fx]: Adds a glow effect to bright areas. Similar to AmbientLight, but can be more performance-heavy.
    12. AmbientLight [AmbientLight.fx]: Gives a glow around light sources. Nice for atmosphere, but not critical.
    13. FXAA [FXAA.fx]: A basic anti-aliasing technique. Essential for smoothing edges but might be redundant if you're using in-game AA.
    14. AMD FidelityFX Contrast Adaptive Sharpening [CAS.fx]: A sharpening effect. Might overlap with other sharpening effects.
    15. DELC_Sharpen [qUINT_sharp.fx]: Another sharpening effect. You might not need both this and CAS.fx enabled.
    16. AdaptiveSharpen [AdaptiveSharpen.fx]: This sharpening effect is more performance-heavy than the last two mentioned, but it makes an immediately apparent difference in the game's overall appearance. Try to keep this and at least one of the others enabled.
    17. ADOF [qUINT_dof.fx]: Depth of Field. Can be performance-heavy. Makes the background blurry based on depth. I really like this effect, but some players actually prefer to play without it for a clearer overall view. For better performance, you can disable it or search for other DOF effects to use in its place.
    18. AdaptiveTonemapper [AdaptiveTonemapper.fx]: Adjusts brightness, contrast, and color. Essential for the overall look.
    19. Clarity [Clarity.fx]: Enhances details by adjusting contrast. Can be essential for a clearer image.
    20. AdaptiveFog [AdaptiveFog.fx]: Adds atmospheric fog. If a preset uses this for mood, it can be quite essential.
    21. GloomAO [GloomAO.fx]: Ambient Occlusion effect. Enhances depth, but there are multiple AO effects enabled in this preset, which might not be necessary.
    22. PPFX SSDO [PPFX_SSDO.fx]: Another Ambient Occlusion effect. You might want to choose between your AO effects.
    23. MXAO [qUINT_mxao.fx]: Yet another Ambient Occlusion effect. Multiple AO effects can be performance-heavy. (Out of the three, I went with this one, since it's generally the most praised for its quality.)
    24. PD80_03_FilmicTonemap [PD80_03_Filmic_Adaptation.fx]: Tonemapping effect. Can be essential for the overall color grading and look.
    25. RTGlobalIllumination [qUINT_rtgi.fx]: Simulates ray-traced global illumination, adding more realistic lighting and shading to scenes. As mentioned, it's of the most performance-intensive effects. If you're reading this, the sad reality is that your computer just might not be able to handle RTGI alongside all these other effects, and you'll have to choose which ones you want to keep.

Welp, the 5.1.0 version of reshade is gone and I can't seem to get the menu to load, I've installed countless reshade presets for my other games so I know what I'm doing.

Edit: Nevermind, I fixed it. The 5.1.0 Version is not required anymore since I'm using the 5.7.0 version. Remember to save your setting while using the RE4 Tweak mod everyone.

So this will work fine with 5.7.0 version? As this hasn't been updated since its release and it stills says in description 5.1.0 is required? Would appreciate if you could explain cheers

Pretty cool configuration, but whenever I'm in calls with Hunnigan, Salazar, etc., I can see the bodies of the characters. What's causing this? How can I disable it?

Edit: Looks like it was generic depth.

Glad I ain't the only one who noticed it. It appears below the talkie screen (Behind the scenes, devs simply placed both npcs talking in the same room)

Is there a way to edit this for a quick fix?

FOR THE PEOPLE WITH FPS DROPS, heres what i done to fix it: there is a tab in the presets list of effects called ADOF [qUINT_dof.fx] i disabled this now my fps is way smoother and solid 60fps. this seems to tank my fps. and in my opinion makes the game look better. the depth of field is kind of overbearing with this preset enabled.

Doesn't fix it for me. I'm on a 2080 Super and I have to uncheck like half the effects for it to return to 60fps. This is really weird.
