RE3 Remake is probably the most egregious use of vignette I've seen in a video game thus far. Absolutely atrocious.
Hey man, I posted a couple steps below that got it working for me. It involved using the dx11 beta opt in and then making the hex edits manually which is actually very simple to do. Good luck!
To all my fellow workers in the year 2023, THIS IS HOW TO GET THE MOD TO WORK. I initially was going to post that this mod doesn't work anymore but I found out how to do it.
Step 1: Go to the settings for the game on steam and select Betas & under "Beta Participation" select the only option there "dx11_non-rt - dx11_nonrt." (This changes the games rendering pipeline from DX12 to DX11 which has SLIGHTLY worse performance but its the only way to get the mod to work.)
Step 1.5: Wait for the game to completely reinstall itself.
Step 2: Go to the website https://hexed.it/ and open re2.exe (hxD DOES NOT WORK, hxD while not find the hex codes for some reason)
Step 3: Use the search bar on the right side of the screen and search for "8B 87 3C 01 00 00 89 83 DC 00 00 00". Once located, click on the first hex code "8B" and begin typing in "31 C0 90 90 90 90 89 83 DC 00 00 00".
Step 4: After you're done doing that, click export in the top left corner save it on your PC. Then replace the re2.exe in the steam folder with this new modified one (whilst backing up the OG).
These are all the steps I had to take to get the game to boot and for the vignette to vanish. The difference is night and day! I wish one full year of misery for whoever decided not to add a vignette option in the graphics menu for this game... completely unforgivable. But other than that everything should work fine.
First of all, I found a way to get the exe to work: I saw this other guy Dmitri (right below) having problems with the exe. I tried the newest download but it didn't work for me, I just got a black screen on launch. Thankfully it's extremely easy to do manually (it's literally a copy-paste job).
Go to your Resident Evil 2 folder and make a backup of your re2.exe (copy it and paste it into another folder, press F2 to rename it however you want (ex. "re2 BACKUP.exe"), this will be your fall back if it doesn't work). You can now drag the backup back into your RE2 folder so you don't forget where it is
Download and Install HxD (search HxD Hex editor)
Launch HxD and click "File > Open" re2.exe from your Resident Evil 2 folder (the unchanged one, not the backup)
Copy (CTRL+C) 8B 87 3C 01 00 00 89 83 DC 00 00 00 (or copy the hex codes from the mod description, they're the same codes), press CTRL+F to open the search box and go to the "Hex-values" tab.
Now Paste (CTRL+V) the code which should bring you straight where you want to be. Now Copy 31 C0 90 90 90 90 89 83 DC 00 00 00, click back to the window and Paste.
CTRL+S to save or click File > Save. You're done.
It worked for me. At least it launches and it plays. I've never been a stickler for the minute details but it looks like it worked. I just did this because the other RE Immersion ReShade mod recommended it.
OPTIONAL 7: If it doesn't work for whatever reason, delete the re2.exe in your Resident Evil 2 folder then rename your "re2 Backup.exe" back to "re2.exe" or try to find the fix for this yourself. That's all I know, unfortunately!
And to further date this post beyond anybody reading this today because it's funny: Happy Black Friday everyone! Halloween is gone and Christmas is yet to come, so we celebrate this day of great sales.
Is this mod dated? I got the immersion 2.0 mod to work just fine but when I replace the exe file with this one my game never lauches. I just get a black screen. I tried searching for the hex line to manually change the code that's listed on the description but the hex line isn't found when searching
Just edited the EXE and wow this is so much better. I don't understand why the developers thought it was a good idea to force it on people. Especially with the fact that it's way too excessive. I wouldn't mind some "subtle" vignette.
Since re3 remake uses the same engine and basically is the same game under graphic terms, could this work to disable vignette in re3 ? Will test it anyways, just woondering.
