Guns of The Old West is a weapon overhaul mod that aims to bring more consistency across the first and second game by implementing some elements of RDR1's weapons, as they are noticeably different in terms of appearance and functionality.
This mod is relatively lightweight and should not cause issues with the game as it does not include any online-exclusive weapons such as the Navy Revolver or Eleplant Rifle, thus it does not need OCU or LITE to function.
Disclaimer: This mod uses someone else's weapon mod as a base. I have received full permission from Mr. Sweed to use the first version of his Buffalo Sharps Rifle mod as the base for my changes in this mod. I have also received permission from the authors of the required mods to include a couple textures for merging purposes to ensure that they do not conflict.
New weapons:
1. The Buffalo Rifle - This single-shot hunting rifle has stayed true to reliability and accuracy to this day. (Replaces the Repeating Shotgun).
2. The High Power Pistol - A brand-new pistol that proves to hold its own. (Replaces the M1899 Pistol).
3. The Winchester Repeater - Ten rounds, high accuracy; a formidable force. (Replaces the Lancaster Repeater).
Other changes and additions:
•Pump-action Shotgun model replacement.
•Visual recoil (the brief camera shake from shooting a gun) has been implemented over the game's default recoil mechanic.
•Weapon names have been changed to fit their naming from the first game.
•Weapon stats such as rate of fire and reloading speed have been tweaked to better fit how they were in RDR1. To reach max loading speed with a weapon, you must reach max familiarity with that weapon. Weapon accuracy has been tweaked only for a couple weapons that I saw fit for. The LeMat Revolver's reload speed has been kept slow in order to balance it out.
•Bullet velocity has been lowered for weapons to a degree that I find logical, meaning you must now lead moving targets at further distances for successful hits, as done in the first game.
•Default metals, varnishes and components (for all guns excluding the Varmint Rifle) have been changed to reflect their RDR1 appearance as close as I could get them to be.
•All guns have been unlocked by default and are now distributed across gunsmiths distinctly. Most weapons will be in places that fit their setting (i.e. the Henry Repeater would be located in Rhodes, an old town that never moved on).
•The overall pricing for guns has been adjusted to amounts that I believe are right. This was done to give balance from their stat changes.
•Weapon icons and catalog page images have been updated to reflect the new weapon additions.
•Weapon compendium images and descriptions have been updated to reflect changes and additions.
Required mods:
1. Lenny's Mod Loader (latest version)
2. RDR1 Winchester 1894 (standard version only)
3. Model 1897 Trench Gun ('Accurate Winchester Model 1897' version only)
4. FN 1903 (standard version only)
5. Realistic Worn Gun Metals (standard version only)
6. Lenny's Mod Manager or Red Dead Modding Tool
Please ensure that all of these are installed before installing and using my mod.
A mod manager is required for my mod to work as intended. Ensure my mod is sorted below the other required mods.
My mod is incompatible with any other weapon overhauls, such as ones that edit weapons.ymt, catalog_sp.ymt, etc.
My mod is compatible with mods that change the models for weapons, excluding the ones that this mod requires.
This mod pairs well with:
1. Springfield Trapdoor Carbine
2. Hammerless Sawed Off
3. John's RDR1 Hunting Knife
4. RDR1 Knife Sheath (use my merge)
5. Other RDR1-styled mods.
Credits:
I would like to thank the talented Mr. Sweed for letting me use his spectacular Buffalo Rifle mod as a base and letting me use his weapon_large.ytd texture from his RDR1 Winchester 1894 mod. This mod wouldn't have come to fruition without his mod and his permission to use it in mine.
I would also like to thank Oakous for letting me use his weapon_large.ytd texture from his Trench Gun mod and Praiseaidan for letting me include my own version of his pbrWeaponSurfaces.ymt for merging into this mod.
Each of the mods required were made by very talented individuals who helped make this mod possible.
