There are other mods out there like this, but this is just a streamed replacement of time.xml that seems to be working well enough. The timescale stays vanilla, the effects are achieved simply by tweaking sunrise and sunset settings without changing anything else.
This amplifies the indirect lighting effects on the clouds by hitting them with brighter light before the sun rises, and the transition effect continues for longer after it sets, with drawn out pinks, purples, and blues.
This mod does actually make the sun rise later, and set earlier, but just the sun object itself, which also has a nice effect on how early the sunrise feels, and how late the sunset feels vs vanilla. It is much more realistic in the morning and evening.
This mod does not modify timecycle files, does not contain any scripts, and only replaces 1 game file.
The sunrise starts at 4am and finally rises at around 6am
The sunset starts at 6pm and sets at around 7pm
The sun is less intense throughout the day, transitions are smoother
Night/twilight is about 10 hours, with light fading sharply at dusk and dawn
Most of the night is now moonlight only
Version 1 so still room to improve.
Drop my folder 'Improved Sunrise and Sunset' into the lml folder.
