The two huts, one by the lake and the other in the swamp, are two idyllic places.
In some westerns I'd seen, a few people said they wanted to experience the West while it was still around. This contrast can also be seen here. In some areas the increasing industrialization and in other areas the pure and beautiful nature.
And the game often plays to that romantic view of the Wild West. It takes place in 1899, well after it was possible to travel by train from coast to coast. You run in to a number of people such authors, fame seekers, and would-be homesteaders dreaming of the simple country life. But of course Arthur (the protagonist) often has to be the one to show them the ugly truth about life away from any civilization.
