Apologies for the late replies. I've been on the road in Texas and the telegraph offices are few and far between. Even got snowed in at Abilene, took all 380 Horses to pull us outta there. Hunkered down in Fort Stockton now -- fortunately the Cavalry's got some decent comm lines.

I'm enjoying the game. I know it's been out for a year or more, so many of you have already played it. I would recommend it for the game play (except the negatives mentioned below). The story, the scenery, the graphics, and the character development are all top notch. There aren't many mods, and there is no character creation -- you're Arthur. There are some mods that allow you to swap other "in game" characters for Arthur (with caution). The character detail -- well, all the detail -- is quite good and the cut scenes are nearly lifelike. I haven't played CP2077, but based on the images that I've seen here, it appears to be at that level.

Arthur is assigned missions (quests), but for the most part he is free to roam the beautiful country as he pleases. And of course, this either gets him into trouble or opens up additional quests.  I haven't proceeded very far in the main quest, but so far so good -- well, if you don't mind being a bandit. A somewhat civilized bandit, and often he does do good deeds (your choice). Arthur is not a crazed killer and doesn't go looking for trouble. It seems to find him, however. You could play him as a crazed killer, I suppose, but be prepared to deal with the sheriffs, the posses, and the bounties.

Negatives. PC game controls, that's all. The game was produced for console and the control key/mouse combinations on PC can be extremely frustrating to use. The basics are still there like WASD for Arthur and his horse, also aim and shoot are R mouse and L mouse. But some of the commands are really pretty dumb, not intuitive and difficult.
Well, a couple more complaints: The game is not easily modded. A pity, but it's fun to play as is. There is no character creation. You get Arthur, as he is. There are plenty of options for how you "play" him to develop his character and reputation, but... No creation at the beginning. There are some mods to swap other characters for him.

Like I said, I thought I'd do this set in B&W. There are a few "antique photos" in the set also. I may try sepia, rotogravure, or other treatment later. The landscapes and scenery beg for color, however.

I'll toss my hat in to the "I like the sepia more than pure B/W shots" ring too.  Good stuff, for sure.  Also on my someday list.

I think you would enjoy the game. The action keys are the only serious issue. I remember your  "man in black" vaguely -- there may be some resonance there. I'll be sure to try some sepia pix at some point.

Dangit, no, not more new games to play *kick* *scream*.  The only thing truly holding me back is that I'm led to understand we have no influence on creating our protagonist and my "best gal" would be unhappy if I played without her.

Honestly, these are pretty good and it's tempting me to get RDR2 along with RD online.
I might settle for putting a cowboy in the next project though

I think you would enjoy the game very much. There are no mods for poses or character manipulation, so setting up a scene is not possible. Still there  is plenty going on for you to capture. And with your imagination, I'm pretty sure you could spin a mighty fine yarn. The game was on sale at Steam -- may still be -- and includes the online option. I'm playing single player. Pat said there a lot of those _______ players on line. I don't remember the name she used, but those who just love to show up and kill you for the hell of it.

EDIT: I just remembered you were playing online and know about those $%@#X players. Anyway, the story line of the game is good so far.

Griefers! And "hackers". Most times they're doing both. They aren't really hackers though.
Anyone can download a trainer and risk getting banned.

I think you might enjoy it. There are some grand western vistas, well developed and interesting characters, and so far some good adventures. A decent sound track also. Heavy on the western guitars -- steel, dobro, and 6-string, of course. I'm listening to this one right now. A nice tribute to Morricone apparently.

I wish I could take credit for Arthur, but he's the standard/default character. There is no character creation.

I like the "old picture/sepia" type of image
Never played that game, not so for that survival thingie... but it seems to be a beautiful game with good image options.... and your pics are looking great, Laird

Thank you. It's been fun so far. I'm still learning how to play, but I like the "freedom" to roam. Well, I guess most games are non-linear now. But somehow in the wide open spaces of the west, I feel it more so.

Thanks. Now that's one I haven't thought of in awhile -- Paladin. Rawhide and Gunsmoke are still shown on MeTV (or Grit). Maybe, Paladin, I'm not sure.
Rollin, rollin, keep those doggies rollin...

I keep meaning to buy this. I've got it for the PlayStation but never got around to buying the PC version.

Well, I don't know anything about PS, but the game was made for consoles. So, the key strokes/commands coupled with mouse clicking on a PC is frustrating.

I think I'll give it a miss then, I was going to get it for improved controls but I won't if they're worse.

You must feel like you're finally home Great set. Reminds me very much of old pics from the RL Old West - and Tombstone not least. The faces here look very realistic as compared to FO4.

Yep, I reckon so. It does feel like home. This game even has horses. Can you imagine a game company doing a western setting without horses? The graphics are definitely a step up over FO4 especially the cut away scenes.

Thank you. So far it's been a good game. My only complaint is that using the control keys and mouse combinations have made it difficult to play on the PC. Well, for some of the detailed actions you have to do.

I am surprised you are not playing this: https://www.nexusmods.com/news/14433?pk_source=nexus+mods&pk_campaign=nxm_social

Pictures look good and nice job on the B&W. I won't visit much here though as of all the various game genres and time periods this one is my least favorite.

Yeah, no kidding. I saw that Frontier was released, but I'm stuck with dial-up speed on the road right now. The download will have to wait until I get home.

Ya say, ya don' have a hankerin' fer westerns and cowboys? C'mon, Jon, where's that wild west spirit of adventure and danger?
