I can't get the Tweaker to work. I'm using the 64bit version of the dll, and 64bit version of Rage. Apparently the game has gone through some updates and the console no longer supports the changing of CVars. Is that maybe why the Tweaker isn't working?
I have been using the mod myself recently and it still worked as intended. Are you maybe using some other tool that hooks into the game instead of the dinput8.dll of the mod?
If you want to know for sure, you can use something like the Process Explorer, to inspect which DLL is loaded, while the game is running.
On Wolfenstein The New Order I get extreme VRAM usage, wich increase over time and after each reload by at least 800m, until I get to the point where I get an error message sayint that the game use too much VRAM.
I tried to play with the config files but nothing seems to change, it got even worst at some point with 5.5gb of vram used at the launch of a level. I'm running the game on a 7800XT, wich have plenty of Vram, and I had no problem at all with my 1060 back in the day and using your tweak.
I'm going to try isolate each Cvars one by one to see if there is any changement in that. I know that back in days AMD/ATI cards had some probleme runing IdTech 5, could this be related to driver settings or something like that ?
When I change any setting in the cfg file, when the game itself starts (not in the menu) I suddenly become 48fps, despite the limit of 120fps. helps only reboot PC. how to fix it? where did I go wrong?
Am glad to read your still active with this mod. Am going to try it out. But would like your suggestions on settings. I did read all the description. And understand most of what's there, but you wrote the program, so would like your input. The settings I'm most interested in are;
vt_pageImageSize* [4096, 8192, 16384]
vt_uncompressedPhysicalImages [0,1]
vt_maxPPF [1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128]
I'm running a ryzen 7 8 core, Nvidia 2060 Super 12 gb DDR6, and 32gb DDR4 3600 ram. Have a 2560x1440 165 hrz display. Game is installed to a gen 4 NVME on D drive. Windows 10. Using x64 version of Rage with 2 DLC. (No soundtrack DLC). Have the game settings for GPU Cuda on. Am getting a lot of short stuttering. Yet my overlay is showing 5gb of VRAM and CPU is around 43% and ram is at 18gb total in use, at time stuttering is happening. My fps doesn't seem to want to go above 75. Otherwise not seeing any noticeable pop ins. Your recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. BTW: Just got the game and have only played for about 4 hrs. Seems like Mad Max + FONV had a baby and called it Rage.
I have tried enabling CUDA transcoding with different HW setups over the years and never saw a benefit. It always resulted in stuttering, espcially when increasing the FPS limit and increasing the texture quality.
This kind of makes sense, because CUDA is independent of the rendering and can interfere with the graphics related work of the GPU when things take too long. I would recommend having it off at all times, especially since the engine is good at paralllizing it and modern CPUs have more than enough cores to do this sufficiently.
As stated in the config, if you are using 'vt_uncompressedPhysicalImages 1' you will most likely also not be able to get high FPS, because the engine will spend a significant amount of time dealing with the textures.
If you are experiencing noticeable texture pop-in with the config above, you can increase vt_maxPPF until that goes away. Beware to not set it too high though, as at some point it will cause FPS instability.
Thanks for reply. I will implement your suggestions. Am getting huge stuttering issues with the 64 bit game version. Tried the 32 bit and had no noticeable stuttering. To me that sounds strange. Since 64 should be able to handle data flow much more effectively. I do think most of the issue is caused by game engine, since none of my HW is anywhere near maxed while playing. I'm also wondering if the 64 version offered. Is only offered as modded. Whether that somehow has something to do with it. I wish there was a way to test 64 unmodded. Since none of the "mods" I use actually go in mods folder. That folder is empty. Also if using 64 achievements are disabled. They need to change this so we can have a 64 version not tied to mods. Anyway, going to run 64 version with your suggestions and see what the outcome is. Will let you know. Your 32 bit mod version with default settings works great. I did a before/after test. Definitely notice an improvement in both FPS gain and stability. Though stuttering wasn't an issue in either before/after. Endorsed
Thank you for all to work you put into this! I love your mods and I've been using this one for a couple of years now. Since there hasn't been an update in a while I assume you've moved on from this project. I feel like an asshole asking this but on the off chance that you ever decide to update this mod in the future could you consider adding an option to disable the damage feedback in RAGE? Thank you again!
After several years, I actually started to replay RAGE again literally yesterday and am considering modernizing the tweaker and maybe adding a few things here and there.
Can you elaborate on what exactly you mean? There are several things regarding the damage feedback, such as the flash and distortion effect that occurs, but also the heartbeat aspect of it. I am not sure if they can be separated, but maybe you can provide a screenshot so I know what you are talking about.
Being able to disable all of them would be awesome for visual clarity. But, being able to disable just the distortion/double-vision effect would already make a heck of a difference. It's amazing how much the experience in a game can improve when you get rid of things that affects visual clarity in a negative way, specially in a first person shooter!
I will see what I can do, but I cannot say when I will have the time as I am preoccupied with other things at the moment.
Btw.: Are you using the 32-bit or 64-bit version of the mod for RAGE? I am considering dropping support for the 32-bit version entirely, because all the other idTech 5 games are 64-bit anyway and the 64-bit version of RAGE seems to run better over the 32-bit version.
And I'm using the 64-bit version. To this day the only time I've even heard of someone using the 32-bit version was just to try out the multiplayer. Just like you said the 64-bit version runs better!
Hey great mod thanks for making this, just have a quick question if you could help. How can I set the minimap to toggle because I don't know what the description means with the no argument. Also is it possible to disable weapon zoom when aiming? Thanks
Hi there, the description means that the command works as a toggle when you don't specify whether it should be enabled or disabled. Just omit the argument entirely.
Here is an example of a toggle binding to the F2 key:
bind F2 id5Tweaker_RAGE_HideMiniMap
Also: Right now it is not possible to disable the weapon zoom when aiminig.

I used the cvar but that totally deactivates head bobbing, the character is static when moving or sprinting also there's no footstep sounds either.
So I used -1(this deactivates it), do you think replacing it with "0.5" would decrease it rather then totally deactivating it ?

[COMMANDS]
id5Tweaker_SetFpsLimit 164
and archievements are still aviable.
[COMMANDS]
id5Tweaker_SetFpsLimit 164 in the commands section? If not what do I write cause I am lost. Just trying to play with some extra fov lol

With your HW I would recommend the following:
