      Try this:
      1. Navigate to your Q2 Remaster folder in Steam.
Your default local path should be something like that ..SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Quake 2\rerelease\baseq2
      2. Place this pak file into "baseq2" directory of the game.
      3. Launch the game in Steam, open console with "~" and execute command/sky 2k/unit1_
      4. Enjoy

Thanks. It works. Are you planing to do this for other units? You must. Your skybox is great. This is a must have mod.

Other skyboxes in my toDo list.
But i won't come up with any estimations here.
I have not enough time for creative work due too many real life duties at the moment.

Hey there. I followed these steps but it didn't work for me. The game told me it didn't recognize the command.

EDIT: Nevermind, I was typing the command wrong. New question: is there a way to set these new skyboxes as default so that we don't have to type the command sky 2k/unit1_ every time we load in any level in the unit?

Yes, you can do that in couple of ways and it depends which Quake2 fork you are using.

      1.  Add this command to config file and it will execute it automatically (note: config filename might have different names in various Quake 2 clients nowadays)
      2. Substitute original skybox files with current ones from PAK file accordingly.
      3. Bind a button for that command via console

which game client you are running?

If you are under Quake2 remaster, try open console, type sky and press TAB, then continue to type 2k/unit1_ and hit Enter. Should work.

didn't tested with GOG version but you can try.
It is only a set of 1k/2k image textures inside the *.pak file

    Hey!
I'm trying to load this mod with instruction given by you, but it wont load on Yquake 8.41. It says:  "Opengl3.2 cant load etc." All my other textures and models are in zip files. If I remember correctly pak files wont work this way on Yamagi. It needs to be a zip file with textures in it.
EDIT: I have few texture packs in pkz and pk3 and they work fine too.

well, try to open Pak file with any tools like "pak explorer" or "pakscape" and export content of the "ENV" folder into your Quake2/Baseq2/ENV
Then open console and execute /sky 1k/unit1_
      This should help.

Ping me, if you need those sky files as a stand-alone assets i try to upload them here directly.

Looks pretty great; looks like Stroggos. I hope you have plans to redo the other skyboxes like this.
    ---
If anyone else was confused like me: to use these, put the .tga files in C:\Users\YOURNAME\Saved Games\Nightdive Studios\Quake II\baseq2\env
    (assuming you're playing the re-release)

This info is in the "Docs" tab, which I forget even exists.
