It sounds very difficult to accurately capture mathematically, when the game has different scaling and distance values that do not seem to correspond to real world units of measurement. Hence, this is why I would prefer to just.. adjust things manually until it looks "right".
Here's a better comparison, notice how the Earth is 50% larger on the NASA image?
I've looked into it and it's not looking good for mooncrash I'm afraid. Modifying earth's size at all caused it to disappear entirely on my end, which is pretty weird and it's possible that with mooncrash's different saving model it might take starting a new game for the changes to even apply. I'll look more into it but I wouldn't recommend raising your hopes up.
Thanks so much, the massive Earth really bugged me! Unfortunately I can't get this to work with Real Lights plus Ultra Graphics for some reason, something in that mod is preventing the Earth's scale from changing.
Yes, that mod modifies the same file iirc. You could try editing it manually. Open the mod file in the Precache folder with 7zip or winrar or another similar program. Then go to Libs/Sky/ArkSpaceSettings.xml.
Inside you should find a line that says <Earth SunOffsetAngles="-3,0,65" Orientation="15,0,0" RotationSpeed="1" Distance="245000" Scale="4.5"/> replace it with <Earth SunOffsetAngles="-3,0,-65" Orientation="15,0,0" RotationSpeed="1" Distance="200000" Scale="0.54"/> and you should be good to go!
Sorry, I should have mentioned in my first post that I did try editing ArkSpaceSettings.xml, but it didn't work. I tried it again just now and it still doesn't do anything. I've decided to just stick with yours since the Real Lights mod is incompatible with most of the rebalance mods I want to try. Thanks though!
I opened the Real Lights .pak in the Precache folder and edited the line you showed above in Libs/Sky/ArkSpaceSettings.xml. I tested it on both a save file and a new game and the Earth was huge either way. I have no idea why this wouldn't work, but I'm not sure what I could be doing wrong. What version of Real Lights do you use? I was trying it with the Balanced version, since that's supposed to be the most compatible.
I don't actually use the mod. I downloaded the balanced version too, though, to give the replacement line. Strange. But oh well. Real lights is a bit beyond me in how it achieves the things it does
I can't believe it took so long for this critically-important mod to be made -- the last piece needed to make this game a masterpiece. This game is now unplayable without this mod.

Earth's view from the moon (Apollo 11, NASA, 1969):
Assessment: Earth is too far away, please encourage it to move a tad bit closer.
