Is it not possible to swap the skin for the artemis golden gun? i'm really not a fan of golden skins, even just changing it to the default black would be nice, though i the kasma skin also works to keep it unique.
sorry to necro this but I came here seeking the exact same thing and finally discovered that, you can! you'll need 7-zip in case you don't have it already. all of this is using the transtar pistol as an example; other variants may be in slightly different folders with slightly different names, but the process is the same.
create a nested folder chain starting with Objects > weapons.
in the weapons folder, create two folders: pistol and GoldenPistol.
in pistol, create a folder called 1P. in GoldenPistol, create a folder called 3P.
unpack the mod file with the textures of your choice by right clicking the .pak file and choosing 7-zip > extract as archive.
in the extracted mod folder, navigate to objects\weapons\pistol\dlc_pack_04. copy all the files from dlc_pack_04 EXCEPT [variant]_pistol.mtl (so, everything with the extension .dds, .dds.1, .dds.a, etc., but nothing with the extension .mtl) into your pistol > 1P folder. copy the exact same files into your GoldenPistol > 3P folder.
go into your 1P folder. rename every file that is named transtar_pistol_ddna.[whatever]to PistolGolden1P_ddna.[whatever]. rename all files called transtar_pistol_diff to PistolGolden1P_diff. do the same thing for all the other files, generally just replacing transtar_pistol_ with PistolGolden1P_ and keeping the rest intact.
go into your 3P folder and do the exact same thing, but instead of replacing the variant name with PistolGolden1P_, replace it with PistolGolden3P_.
navigate back to your root folder. right click on the "Objects" folder and choose 7-zip > "add to Objects.zip". to check that you did it right, double click the newly created zip file, and it should contain an "Objects" folder followed by the structure you set up before.
rename the entire zip file, including extension, to patch_[whatever].pak (ie, patch_transtargoldenpistol.pak, it doesn't matter as long as it starts with patch_ and ends in .pak.)
move it to your precache folder with your other mods.
this won't take care of everything - the artemis pistol has its own magazine texture, while the transtar pistol I used as an example just uses the default, which means that the artemis magazine isn't replaced (though it looks okay with the transtar textures and you only see it for a split second when reloading anyway). i'm sure this could be fixed, and the entire process almost certainly made much faster, by just editing the artemis pistol's .mtl files to point to the textures you want, but that would require being better than Absolute Idiot Baby at hex editing, which I am not.
I want to change the weapon textures myself with my own ideas, but I don't know how to edit these. Can you tell me how do you changed the Textures of the Weapons?
Is there any way to add the laser or gloo turrets to the base game?
It's a shame, and annoying, that the devs didn't find a way to add these skins, and any other items to the base game. I'm sure it wouldn't have taken much to balance them.
Excuse me, guys, but I have a question: is it possible to add the psi-cutter to Prey? Or maybe to replace the wrench to the psi-cutter (just to replace the model and sounds without gameplay changes or to make full replacement, or to change fabrication plans)?
The best porting attempt I've seen does use the psi cutter model with the wrench's animations, but it doesn't have the blade, which IMO is the most important part. There's a lot of skilled modders still trying to make this possible though.
Damn! Thank you for the answer, i still hope so. Maybe, at least, someone will replace wrench to some blade/knife (like Dishonored, hehe)... I will monitor Nexus.

now i have learned that you can just rename the zip-files to pak.
didnt know that.

Thanks again!
(except that the DLC gun will recycle into fewer materials)
