I really liked your mod, can you please update it? I would like to enjoy the mod so that the lions have yellow eyes, not dark or purple,_, thank you for updating ?
Okay, so this is a bit confusing - what subspecies is this? I mean, there are no "northern lion" as far as I know. There are however, three that can fit this.
1. The congo lion, aka. "The northeastern lion" 2. The extict (pureblodded at least) barbary lion, aka. the atlas lion or "northern lion" 3. Since you mention India in the description - the asiatic lion.
Wich one is it? Thank you for clearing up my confusion.
None of the ones you mentioned are subspecies anymore, there's only 2 subspecies of lion with current taxonomy: Northern lion (P. leo leo) and Southern lion (P. leo melanochaita).
The subspecies you mention are no longer valid, the scientific consensus is that lions only have 2 subspecies, the Northern lion P. l. leo and the Southern lion P. l.melanochaita .
As Killertut has pointed out the Northern subspecies includes the no longer valid Asian, Barbary, West African and Central African lions.
Well it's not a remake per se because there's a renaming mod coming to PZ+ that will change default West African Lion to Southern lion, since Frontier's WA lion always looked more like southern, and white lions are only common in the Southern subspecies.
Recent Eight recent subspecies are recognized today:
P. l. persica, known as the Asiatic lion or South Asian, Persian, or Indian lion, once was widespread from Turkey, across the Middle East, to Pakistan, India, and even to Bangladesh. However, large prides and daylight activity made them easier to poach than tigers or leopards; now around 300 exist in and near the Gir Forest of India.[23]
P. l. leo, known as the Barbary lion, is extinct in the wild due to excessive hunting, although captive individuals may still exist. This was one of the largest of the lion subspecies, with reported lengths of 3 to 3.3 meters (10–10.8 feet) and weights of more than 200 kilograms (440 lb) for males. They ranged from Morocco to Egypt. The last wild Barbary lion was killed in Morocco in 1922.[8]
P. l. senegalensis, known as the West African lion, is found in western Africa, from Senegal to Nigeria.
P. l. azandica, known as the Northeast Congo lion, is found in the northeastern parts of the Congo.
P. l. nubica, known as the East African or Massai lion, is found in east Africa, from Ethiopia and Kenya to Tanzania and Mozambique.
P. l. bleyenberghi, known as the Southwest African or Katanga lion, is found in southwestern Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Angola, Katanga (Zaire), Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
P. l. krugeri, known as the Southeast African lion or Transvaal lion, is found in the Transvaal region of southeastern Africa, including Kruger National Park.
P. l. melanochaita, known as the Cape lion, became extinct in the wild around 1860. Results of mitochondrial DNA research do not support the status as a distinct subspecies. It seems probable that the Cape lion was only the southernmost population of the extant P. l. krugeri.[14]
As outdated as information can be, nothing indicates that current taxonomy system is gonna stay for long (2 subspecies), considering the popularity of the names we're thinking about keeping the 3 most popular names out there for 3 different lions, African lion (the original one in Planet Zoo), Asiatic lion (this mod) and the extinct in the wild Barbary lion (will get a mod in the future), these 3 lions wont necessarily represent what taxonomy says, but represent the 3 visually different types of lions you usually see, therefore in their zoopedia you might see the exact same scientific name, but they'll look significantly different.
Appreciate that officially the latest thinking is that it's not a distinct subspecies but I do think some of that thinking on subspecies is fluid so there is a good chance that the two subspecies will become more again in the future (although maybe not as many subspecies as previously with the DNA analysis tools available). It's also complicated due to the consequences of those classifications - there have been studies on Tigers that have concluded only three subspecies I believe - Northern, Southern and Sunda...but there was a strong view that the classification could see a reduction in support for Tigers conservation in some geographic regions as a result.
Anyway - Fantastic work on these Big Cat mods Gabboi and Havok1199 !!
Many Thanks for uploading - looks great still. Unfortunately my game seems to keep crashing with it - quite a few times seemed to be when the female was playing in the sprinkler if that helps at all (but also crashed once when I only had a male and he wasn't near a sprinkler). Tried it with no other mods and I haven't got ACSE - would that make a difference? thanks again
Edit: Ignore this - not sure if I downloaded the wrong version or the link did it automatically but noticed the filename was identical to the 1.8 file. have downloaded the 730-3-0 version so fingers crossed that sorts it. thanks again
The cat mods are amazing but this is my favourite mod (by far). I know there is already a Lion in the game - but most Zoo's I've visited tend to have Asian/Northern Lions and I quite like having both species anyway. Thanks very much (and look forward to 1.9 update).

P. l. leo (Linnaeus, 1758) ? the nominate lion subspecies includes the Asiatic lion, the regionally extinct Barbary lion, and lion populations in West and northern parts of Central Africa.[17] Synonyms include P. l. persica (Meyer, 1826), P. l. senegalensis (Meyer, 1826), P. l. kamptzi (Matschie, 1900), and P. l. azandica (Allen, 1924).[1] Multiple authors referred to it as 'northern lion' and 'northern subspecies'
So really this is a "remake" of the basegame Lion, since the "West african Lion" also is a p.l.l. subclade
thanks!
