What level would you recomend starting this? (I've completed hasongo, but much lower level than 15 as I have exp nerfs)
And will the items you get in here if you start early, basically totally overpower the items you'd get going through game normaly, making once cool loots kind of lack luster in comparison?
I feel that happens in POE1 if you start white march too soon, you can get some crazy good gear, and it can kind of take from the excitement you'd get from normal drops/rewards earlier in the game.
My opinion: around level 16 is a good level to attempt either DLC. Depending on how much you are reducing the xp gain you should have found some pretty good equipment by that time?
Ah okay cool. Thats still quite a way aways for me, so I'm not sure. Was just worried based on commentator in this thread that if this is supposed to be endless paths type deal, I should be starting it way sooner...but 16 is pretty high level.
That's all just speculation on our parts. There isn't really an Endless Path equivalent in this game sadly. And SSS has quests & enemies at/around level 16 and balance wise is aimed more towards the harder end of Deadfire content.
So yeah if this your first time playing that DLC, in my opinion, level 15 to 16 is a good place to start the DLC.
just wrapped up a playthru of Deadfire and won't be starting again for a while, but I downloaded this so I could endorse it. Starting SSS earlier is the one thing I always hoped they would patch!
Yeah, with the internal name for the dlc being "lax1" I get the feeling Obsidian might have originally intended to release SSS as the first of the DLCs and have it start much sooner. Humaire even states that her reason for contacting the Watcher is after hearing word of their battle with Benwith during the prologue. Which is a very small event as far as what the player will have done at this point in the game.
This conversation is a year old, but you guys are right. SSS must have been intended as the Endless Paths of Deadfire, a combat gauntlet that one would return to periodically during their adventure. As is, it completely fucks the pacing (not that Deadfire needed any help on that one) by placing a thick wad of combat on your plate near the pinnacle of the story. Good thing S4 exists. It would be an interesting project to rebalance SSS so that it progresses alongside the player's regular journey - I think it would be an overall improvement to the game. It could also be used to make more equipment available earlier in an organic way, I hate all those random merchants with mythical equipment lying around. Thanks for the idea.
Also, Kvellen, your mod images are all so nice to look at. I'm envious. And not willing to improve myself. I'll just admire yours.
