I love it and I thank you for this mod, people who upload portrait packs tend to put only two types of images in the female ones: those that look more like an anime that doesn't fit with the RPG aesthetic, or those that have so little clothing that makes them seem like a bad joke as a character
I'm disappointed that this has only 17 comments. (Well, 18 now.) I was beginning to think I was one of the only heterosexual males alive that utterly HATES over-sexualization. Destroys the ambiance, punches holes in the aesthetic, and retards (otherwise well-established and developed) female characters. To be fair, I hate the same thing with male characters, too. The "furry speedo" thing works for Conan, given the context of the original short-stories and the relatively complex sociopath that Conan actually is. It doesn't work for --anything-- else I have ever come across.
These portraits are very nice. Some are even quite moving. The ones with a bit of sex thrown in are actually fairly fun in that "cosplay" sort of way. (I wouldn't choose to use them in gameplay, myself, but at least they're not ridiculous. Hell, they're more tasteful than some costumes I've seen people I know wearing at Halloween parties IRL.)
I'll nitpick about armor boobs, as well, though. While it does nicely convey "female" with dignity, it is wholly impractical armor. All armor needs a "bubble" of air between plate and flesh in order to provide meaningful protection. Historically, female melee warriors (Gauls, Celts, etc.) would wrap their breasts tightly with fabric like a bandage to affect the same type of support as a modern day sports bra (except the support would be "pinch-and-in", instead of "pinch-and-up" [Ironically, this around-the-middle-and-over-the-shoulders type of wrap gave rise to the classic "tavern wench" style of chemise and bodice in the late middle ages...girls will be girls, I suppose]). They would typically wear exactly the same armor as men, custom-fitted to their -frame-, but not their -shape-. Contact points for a breastplate would be: the collarbone joints at the center, shoulders, ~6 inches under each armpit, and midsection exactly 2/3rds of the way between the bottom rib and the hip -- the same as a man.
Thanks for this commet! And about "boobplate". When i search arts for this pack, i always try to find these categories: Armor looks more or less not skimpy, Heavy armor looks like armor, Womens looks pretty and u can understand that is women from the 1st sight. That why i include some "decolleted" and "boobplate" type armor in that pack.
P.S. Lets dont forget its a fantasy game mod ^^ (i know its a pity excuse)
joan of arch style armor is what i expect when making female knight in fantasy. boobplate is just trope in modern fantasy. if you look at the tolkien elves, they more look like medieval priestess and princess (even moorish woman, not gonna lie) with their closed dress. it just enchance their status of elegance, yet authoritative enough that anyone make a sight on them filled with awe and respect. unlike those succubus boobplate bitches, lolz.
now i could play as galadriel - all shall love me and despair thanks op
Haha I too was side-eyeing the boob plate. All I can think about when I see it is those poor ladies tipping forward and breaking their sternum. Aesthetically is looks kinda nice (if you ignore how boobs work), but practical it is not XD
'' They would typically wear exactly the same armor as men ''
That's because so few women ever wore armor... If armor had become the standard for women too then armor would've ended up developing differently, no armor smith would custom make armor for a single woman every now and again. Your statement there isn't wrong but you're not actually thinking about why it's true.
And as opposed to what so many seem to think no it's not because it'd be dangerous to wear anything else... People wore brigandines that had a flat surface and corset shaped breastplates and they worked just fine... Breastplates emphasizing womens bodies would also be fine, it's f*#@ing hardened steel not plastic.
Plate armour is not designed to be a slab of impenetrable "hardened steel" , but is designed to both ricochet weapons to the sides and lessen the blunt force impact of a blow. Boobplating is not only less effective at both of these critical design purposes but actually accomplishes the exact opposite. The shape of boobplating focuses force from a front torso impact directly into the sternum, whereas real plate armour is designed to distribute force to the sides. The cups on boob armour would also cause a colliding weapon to slide into the middle of the chest rather than to the sides like real plate armour. I trust I don't have to explain why having a weapon directed into the middle of your chest, where several vital organs are, is a bad thing. these issues make boob plate armour completely worthless if not harmful to the person wearing it in reality. These reasons are why most plate armour, even when specifically fitted for a person, doesn't hug the figure - but curves outward slightly.
You could atleast do 30 seconds of research before ignorantly ranting on a 6 year old comment chain on topics you know literally nothing about.
That being said the mod author did an amazing job keeping a fairly consistent art style with this portrait pack, endorsed ^^
I've nothing against skimpy images, but I'd rather that either the male portraits would have the same level of skimpiness, or images where the "skimp" isnt the whole focus of the picture.
Aka. Skimpy Armor = Sure! Warrior lady making a pose to jut out her poorly covered breasts taking up half the portrait (and why would a warrior strike such a pose anyway?) = Njeh...not when going for serious portraits.
Any chance to bring this to Pillars of Eternity 2? This is my favorite portrait pack and I would love to being able to use it in the sequel!
Edit: I noticed that helldvan had these portraits added as a standalone to a big character/npc portrait mod for PoE 2! helldvan, I will be eternally thankful! :D Kudos to you.

Food for thought for future artists...

non-boob plate armor is the fake one

There are always exceptions of course though.
