Would it be possible to make a mod to bring back the original text from the gamecube version of the game? The switch version made a lot of weird changes to the games dialogue/emails/piklopedia descriptions. I don't even know If I could call it censorship because a lot of the changes are sort of arbitrary and pointless
From a "is it possible" standpoint, yes, that's absolutely something we would be able to do. However no tools have been updated for the Switch version to unpack/repack the message files. Much like the issue involving the jar of Skippy in this mod having the wrong color lid, the Switch files are all in Little Endian while the GCN/Wii files were in Big Endian. So all the tools would need to be remade to account for that and it seems the interest hasn't been high enough to do so since the bulk of the modding community sticks with the GCN version. Not that that's a bad thing per se, but it limits what we can do here.
Great work! Thank you so much. I didn't think I cared about this until I played the game and saw the replacement designs and found them to be not as good as the real thing. I'm glad that this exists.
Thank you so much for this mod, I love having the option to switch between sponsored and generic textures now.
Do you know of a way to mod the original descriptions and names for these treasures into this game? I want my Switch port to be as high-fidelity to the original as possible. (Reverting the enemy name changes would be nice as well, but I feel that's more difficult since all four Switch ports have that.)
thanks for this. Do you happen to know of a mod that would put ai no uta back in the game? I don't think they sing it at 20 of each pikmin color, and neither of the mod websites I use have it :/
It should be possible if the file names for them singing is known, but only really feasible at the moment if it's within the replace folders of the romfs. Anything within the actual game files is in little endian and there are no tools to decrypt the files in little endian. It's a whole thing.
Using Photoshop I found screenshots or took my own screenshots of the treasures, cut them out, put them in a layer above the original icons, warped and skewed the treasure image to line up with the original icon, then added a black stroke to the newly formed icon to match the thickness of the HD icons. From there it was just a matter of renaming the file to match the HD icon name in texture_replace and repack everything.
More specifically, it looks like the button textures are in romfs\data\texture_replace\NotClassificated.hix, once extracted they're just .pngs, so you can use an image editor of your choice.
