About this image

I wonder if it's entirely possible to have a base with the vehicle bay in a corner, completely surrounded by dirt squares, making the entire base a pointless waste of space.

Yeah, I have no bloody idea why they decided to make squares we can't use. The first time I saw those I KNEW s#*! like this was going to happen. We need to either be able to excavate them or just plain remove them from the game. There is absolutely zero gameplay to be earned from those stupid blocks.

My guess is, it helps with making base defense missions more engaging, or possibly helps with game balance in some way. If so, I'd be willing to guess it's a very *minor* way. Totally agree with being able to excavate them too - I'll even take a late-game research project to do so, as long as I can start making use of a base. Eight squares down in this one, that's half the usable space of a base! With an access lift, satellite, and generator, I only have five useful slots.

Granted, this particular situation is very rare, with most bases (in my experience) having two or three rock squares and usually zero or one unreachable square, but even so, that's terrible.
