Alternate portraits for Valerie, Nyrissa, Amiri, and Octavia.

When playing the unmodded game, one of the most jarring things about Kingmaker that ruined immersion for me was the matter of Valerie's and Nyrissa's character portraits.

According to the ingame texts, they're supposedly characters who are blessed with divine, supernatural beauty. It wouldn't have been so bad if it's just a throw-away line that shows up once and I can then forget about it and pretend it doesn't exist. But no, practically every other conversation that I have with or about those characters, the text descriptions and dialogue beat me over the head with the fact that they are beautiful. Then I look at their portraits... the disconnect is just way too great.

For me at least, Valerie's portrait is super plain and kinda reminds me of that grumpy lunch lady I used to know in high school to be honest. And Nyrissa's is some kinda deformed amalgamation of an imp and a faerie. Which is fine, really, if not for the fact that the text descriptions keep on insisting that they're among the most beautiful women to have ever walked Golarion.

Of course, beauty is all in the eyes of the beholder, and the world is a vast place. I'm sure that there are people out there who think that their portraits are perfect as they are and wouldn't change a thing. If so, I'm happy for you, really. There might be people who think my portraits are ugly or a downgrade. That's ok too, I understand and I'm sorry to hear that, but I have no plans on doing anything about it. But for people who have a similar sense of aesthetics to myself, here are some alternate portraits you can use instead.

I tried my best to have the new portraits perfectly match the game portraits' original art style. I did both versions of Nyrissa (good/evil) and Valerie (normal/scarred), and also tweaked Amiri's and Octavia's portraits on a whim because I though their facial proportions were kinda... "off" maybe? Naturally, this is an even more subjective matter, but I hope there will be a few people at least who will like my new portraits.

Installation: Download and unzip the file. Open the "New Portraits" folder and go into the subfolders of the characters whose portraits you want to replace. Copy the included "Kingmaker_Data" folder to the game's root folder (which should already have a "Kingmaker_Data" folder and the Kingmaker.exe file). If you did it correctly, you should get a prompt to either replace or skip files. Choose to replace the files. This will replace both their color portraits and their story book events / endgame slide portraits for perfect consistency.

Uninstallation: Open the "Original Portraits" folder and copy the included "Kingmaker_Data" folder to the game's root folder and choose to replace files when prompted to revert to the game's original portraits.

Disclaimer: This was tested on game version 2.0.7b. I cannot guarantee it working for any other game versions.

Also included are simple PNG image files in the "PNG Files" folder if you don't want to mess with base game assets and wish to do your replacements via another Mod instead. Or you could just use them yourself for a custom character or mercenary too. Cheers.
