About this mod

It adds missing schematics to some alpha pals. All alpha pals that drop legendary schematics now also drop the epic version. Dungeon loot tables cleaned up and some alpha pal loot moved around for a better gearing progression.

Compatibility: anything that alters Pal and treasure drop rates is incompatible with this as far as I understand.

Note: this is my very first mod made for anything ever. I have cleaned it up as well as I can with the updates, but please be patient if there are issues. Most people modding here do it because they want a change themselves and for fun. If your feedback is not held in a good tone I'll likely just ignore it, and in more extreme cases I will block you from this and any future mod I make. I, much like you, am a human deserving of respect and kindness.

I want to thank TheSin0fPride for letting me incorporate his mod rates into mine, very generous! Everyone using the combined file should go show them some love on their mod page!
This doesn't mean all files in my mod has True Monster Rancher incorporated, but there is an optional file you can use to replace one of this mods .pak files so you can use both mods at once! Nifty, huh? I heard your shouts for compatibility :) Currently I have only made a file using the Vixy rates, but a full TMR version should come soon. Remember to give them lots of love and maybe a download so they don't miss out!

As I was playing through my second world I tried to enforce a gearing progression challenge onto myself. It was, as expected, frustrating, but not for the right reasons. Some gear didn't have any set drop locations at all (Tropical, Tundra and base Pal Metal), and the first dungeon tier didn't even have all the tier 1 gear schematics, meaning both tier1 and tier2 dungeons dropped tier 2 schematics. As there was no mod that currently fixed that, I did my best to figure out how to fix this and I think I am pretty happy at this point.

What does the mod actually do?
  • It redistributes the schematic drops amongst the Alpha Pals to allow for a better gear progression and all pals now drop the epic version schematic also.
  • Dungeon Loot and Treasure Chest loot has been updated and fixed to make more actual sense. Fairly sure the developers left a few unintentional mistakes in.
  • The missing gear schematics have been added to the Alpha Pal drop table - that means Tropical, Tundra and base Pal Metal.
  • As there was one less helmet tier than body armor tier, I slotted in the Katress Cap between Feathered Hair Band and Metal Helm, and it has been added to both Alpha Pal drop table and dungeon loot for tier 2 dungeons/world chests.

What you can expect:
  • Each gear tier is better grouped and more reasonably streamlined level-wise. Old Bow, Cloth Armor (Tundra/Tropical included) and Feathered Hair Band now drops from Alpha Pals ranging from level 11-18, down from 23. They have been appropriately adjusted in the dungeon and treasure chest loot tables also. Katress Hat, Pelt Armor (Heat/Cold included) and Crossbow drops from Alpha Pals ranging 23-31, where the dungeon for this tier is level 29. Here's a document that has spreadsheets for where everything drops now and the drop rates from both Alpha Pals and treasure chests.
  • Chests will play a bigger part if you truly embrace this mod as you need to open locked chests and dungeon reward chests for the uncommon and rare rarity schematics. This is also explained in the document.

What's the point?

So I personally like when there is forced progression, especially when it brings with it some level of difficulty increase. For that reason I am an avid Runescape Ironman or World of Warcraft hardcore player. My initial intent was to also alter the recipes for the gear so that you have to craft everything in order, but it's not working as I had planned and I'll add that to this once it does work. For now though, just having a consistent source of Epic and Legendary schematics that I can actively grind for will do just fine for me. The chest and dungeon grind has also been fun since it has forced me to move around the world and go into every nook and cranny just for that sweet, sweet schematic upgrade!

Here is a spreadsheet I made that shows all the new drop locations for every single epic and legendary schematic after the redistribution. It also explains a bit more how dungeon reward chests and locked world chests work.

Also, a recommended mod to download is Boss Respawner as some of the pals that drop schematics spawn in boss portals, and those reset based on real time and not in-game time. If you want to be able to do your boss rotations every in-game day, this is pretty much a must. I don't use it for the field bosses since they respawn every in-game morning, but I do use it to reset the boss portal bosses once per day for sure.

Since you will be hunting for chests quite a bit, assuming you do a "true" progression challenge, then I recommend using this interactive map, as it is very clear where all the chests are. It's the one I use at the very least. Perhaps in the future someone (likely not me) makes a mod that displays chest spawns in game!

Suggested challenge parameters for that extra bit of fun!

First and foremost, consider downloading the Nuzlocke mod. It deletes anyone of your Pals that die.

Second, I can't recommend doing a Paldeck challenge enough. What that means is that you have to catch Pals in order of the Paldeck, and once you've caught one, you can catch however you want of that type. In other words, to catch a Foxparks (#5) you have to catch Lamball (#1), Cattiva (#2), Chikipi (#3) and Lifmunk (#4) first. Additionally, you could limit yourself further by not allowed more catches of any Pal beyond the 10 needed for the exp bonus. I've done this as I did my gear progression challenge, and it has been quite fun having to figure out the best team I can do with the weaker Pals, and figuring out my bases since most Pals early in the Paldeck have low work-suitabilities. Yes it's a bit more grindy than vanilla, but it's also really fun for people like me who enjoys a bit of a progression based grind.

Third, just bump up the world difficulty of your world. If you and your pals take more damage, there is a higher chance of you losing those pals when using the Nuzlocke mod. It'll also be harder to kill the Alpha Pals, meaning your gear progression doesn't just get magically easier by leveling up. Play around with the settings and figure out what works for you! The important thing is to have fun :)

Alright, thank you for downloading and playing this mod. I have done limited testing, but as always just back up your save before trying a new mod, and let me know here if there is any particular loot event that causes issues. The more specific the better: was it a field boss? Which one? Was it a boss portal boss? Which one? Was it a chest? What color was the chest, and if purple, was it in the open or at the end of a dungeon? If red, which key did it require and in which biome was it (it matters for the silver key chests)? I hope you get it! When it comes to actual mod debugging I won't be of much help, but if something goes wrong with the data I've altered it is something I can fix for sure.

Also, apologies for the lack of mod images. This isn't really a mod that provides any new visuals.

Installation path

Palworld\Pal\Content\Paks\~mods

I assume this is the same for both Steam and Gamepass users, and I assume it's simply a matter of where you find your directory. In either case, you can right click your game in your respective launcher (Steam or Gamepass) and open the file directory, then it's a simple matter of using the path I provided to get to the right place. Sadly I have no image for Gamepass, but hopefully you get the gist.
