Am i missing something here? game looks drastically worse with this mod. It's so washed out and all vibrant colors are destroyed. is it suppose to do that?
You can just ignore the message and within that log, you can find which shaders have started acting up so that you can disable or remove them from reshade-shaders > shaders folder.
i'm going to attempt to interpret the instructions for anyone so new to ReShader that the instructions seem impossible to follow. i too am new to ReShader, so i'm having to figure it out as i go, but on the chance that i get it, maybe this will save some people the trouble i had to go to. good luck to us all!
note: i'm using option 1, so my instructions will not include figuring out the marty mcfly stuff
1. dl the preset from this mod page and extract the ini to the Outward game folder 2. dl the ReShader app linked in the mod description 3. run the ReShader app and select Outward.exe once the app scans your system and finds it 4. select Direct3D 10/11/12 for rendering api; ref: https://reshade.me/compatibility 5. (since i've already gone thru this i don't know the exact step for a first timer, but just initiate the process; ie:) press the big button to start the process, or click Update if you've already been through this at least once before with Outward ReShader 6. when ReShader asks you to specify shaders, deselect SweetFX (and any other default selections there may be that are not greyed out) and select Legacy Standard 7. on the next page, it appears to itemize the first set of shaders, the ones that were checked and greyed out by default, i just left them checked and moved on 8. the next set of options is the Legacy Standard options. the ones from Step 7 should be checked already. just add the list from the mod author: - Adaptive Sharpen - Ambient Lighting - Bloom (mod author should have listed this, is my guess, but didn't) - Clarity - Curves - Emphasize - FakeHDR (i didn't have HDR to select so chose this one) - Filmatic Pass - Fine Sharp - Gaussian Blur - LiftGammaGain - Luma Sharpen - SMAA (i chose this one rather than FXAA) - Technicolor2 - Tonemap - Vibrance 9. ReShader should specify to either shutdown or specify other things, i chose to specify and point the ini path to the mod author's ini file in the Outward game file 10. close ReShader 11. i'll be honest, i'm at a total loss around the step the author provided that specifies to copy the Bloom.fx file from the archive. i'm guessing he's referring to the mod archive that we downloaded from nexus? if that's the case, mine only contained the preset .ini file. this is why i substituted in the Bloom shader option in step 8, i'm assuming there should be a bloom shader. and if you open the .ini preset file, you'll see it makes specifications to Bloom.fx. and if you selected Bloom as i suggested, the Bloom.fx file is already located where the mod author specifies, so... i just don't know what's going on here. 12. start up the game and hopefully you should have a tutorial from ReShader, follow it. press the Home key to open it up and begin 13. if all is going well, you should be presented with a list of shaders after the first couple clicks of Continue in the tutorial. this list should look familiar, ie: now we're finally seeing the mod author's list. make the correct selections.
you can see how your selections affect the title screen of the game. i tried the full list from the mod author and nothing extra, but felt i needed to adjust, so i ended up deselecting: - LiftGammaGain - all of the 3 FineSharp options and i ended up setting the bloom pixel brightness threshold a bit brighter to tone the bloom down a bit
14. when you're done making your selections/adjustments and want to play, press the Home key again to close ReShader and get to it.
i really hope this helps somebody out there like me who's late to the game but loving it as much as i am.
a huge thanks to the mod author for this preset, it's completely enhanced my enjoyment of the game.
Bloom.fx is in the archive which should be downloaded from Github only if it is to be used. My advice would be either using mcfly's or play with ingame bloom disabled.
As for liftgammagain, you can just disable it and use levels instead. Less range but much easier to use (Basically just two sliders with levels.fx so try to find your monitors sweet spot and do the same with indoors as well)
Sharpen shaders were used to balance gaussian blur effect on edges and highlights.
I keep getting crashes and I don't know what I am doing wrong., as I follow the guide I disabled AmbientLightning and GaussianBlur and nothing is solved. Anyone can help out?
Not gonna lie, instructions are a bit difficult to follow. But once I figured it out and got it working, it looks amazing!! (I'm using preset 2 as is.) Thank you!
