This mod has completely made the game more playable on my rig. I wish we could keep the volumetric fog for shop and home interiors, but the trade off is still worth it to not have my exterior battles turn into slideshows.
I would love to remove only the fog from the exteriors and keep the fog from the interiors, but it has been totally impossible for me to find the files responsible for the effect.
Absolutely amazing fix to the visuals without having to use reshade. The fog looks so awful outdoors and is depends on preference indoors. Seems like fog will just be next gen version of TAA. Would love a version that tones down the bloom by like 25-50% rather than outright removing it. It's a bit too intense without the fog.
While I have a lot of mods running currently, this mod has the greatest overall impact to my pleasure with the game. Removing the volumetric fog SIGNIFICANTLY improves visuals for me. Thank you so, so much. If I could endorse X1000 I would.
Echoing The Comment Of microtramp. Removing The Fog Is A "Game Changer" For Me. Improves FPS And My Game Looks Crisp,Clear And Basically "Fantastic" Would Give More Kudos If I Could ;-)
So what has changed in your updates? There is no change-log listed that I can see. The only thing I see is that the mod to remove chromatic aberration is no longer available as an updated file. Does any of your current version files remove chromatic aberration?
Minimal changes in the description and the Chromatic Aberration files were removed because it seems that many users comment that the game does not have this effect, nothing else.
With this mod installed you don't need to edit anything, but you can get the same or customized results by editing the Engine.ini with the help of a guide.
I kind of found the instructions confusing, specifically:
"Only use one file at a time. Any modifications to Engine.ini that modify the three changes made by this mod will overwrite those changes. This mod does not modify any major aspect of the graphics settings, so all other settings will be changed normally in the game's graphics options."
Does this mean I can only use one of the files?
What I did was:
Downloaded, and extracted all of the files in to a newly created ~mods folder at the specified location.
Did I need to do this one at a time? I'm just confused at the process. I am new to modding.
Yes, you can only use one of the mods because they all write the same internal game file, it is clear that if you use Remove Chromatic Aberration - Bloom - Fog you do not use Remove Chromatic Aberration or Remove Fog.
Just extract and place the PAK file of the mod you want in the ~mods folder in OblivionRemastered\Content\Paks\~mods (don't forget to write the tilde ~ ).
You ever feel like you're living on a planet where the majority are f*#@ing morons. That's how I feel when I see that this isn't in the most downloaded mod for this game.
Let's forget about the performance for one minute. I want to talk to you about visual clarity this mod brings to the table.
No matter what engine.ini or graphics mod you download. The game's lighting interacts with the fog creating a washed out look.
I'm running the game with RTX on Ultra settings at 4k. The fog in this game is so shit. That it detracts the quality of whatever ultra/high settings you enable.
Now I understand, the OG Oblivion and Morrowind had fog. In that era the fog was used to hide the hideous LOD or lack of draw distance. Maybe Virtuous kept the fog in to remain faithful to OG Oblivion.
At what cost though? Making the game look like shit. It's 2025.
Do yourself a favor and download this mod.
This is the most important mod for graphic fidelity on Nexus.
Agreed. I noticed a lot of new games use tons of fog and I wish they'd include an option in the settings to just remove it. Idc if it shows ugly un-rendered backgrounds, the washed out "smog" makes it look horrible. This is seriously my fav mod for this game.
I agree 100%, but not only in games with bad background graphics even in the new last generation games, there is also a new trend among all developers that if you do not use all the effects that exist today to create video games your game is no longer AAA or a good game graphically, is a completely absurd idea that also forces us to change faster and faster hardware for running out of 60FPS to see them decent, that coupled with the poor implementation that have some games I think they are getting out of hand for the average players.
is there actually a difference between Remove Chromatic Aberration - Bloom and Remove Bloom? there are no changelogs nor explanation on what changed if anything. plus Remove Bloom was uploaded the same day as Remove Chromatic Aberration - Bloom but a minute earlier so how is this newer? clarification would be nice if it was just a name change.
why Vortex is showing different names when downloading this is definitely confusing. i would like to think that one removes both chromatic aberration and bloom while the other just bloom but upon downloading Remove Bloom, Vortex shows an entirely different name and unclear as to what its removing because everything is in the title lol why?
I do not understand anything of what you say it may be the translator, there are two mods, one that Remove Chromatic Aberration - Bloom and the other that Remove Bloom, I do not think you need explanations of what each mod does because it is obvious from the name of the mod. If you are referring to the fact that I left the mods containing Remove Chromatic Aberration in the old mods section, it is because after testing with users who came here we came to the conclusion that the game does not seem to use this effect so I left it that way for those who want to download them anyway. As far as the problems that Vortex may cause you, I can not help you will have to ask for assistance to the creator of that tool because the names of my mods both in the archive and in the internal file are completely different the 12.
Awesome. Is there any way to reduce the fog distance, as opposed to outright removal? It'd be good to have some still way off in the distance, no fog just feels a bit.. off...
It is strange that UE4SS allows to modify the parameters “StartDistance” and “FogDensity” when from the UE engine like this mod or in engine.ini they have no effect even if the same lines are added.

Thank!
I just wanted to give a real life example of fog over distance for everyone to give a reference for a summer day in the hills:
