    F.A.Q.

    Q. I can't locate the right path where to paste the Engine.ini
    A. Just press Win + R and copy/paste the following path in the box it will appear if you have Xbox / Game Pass version:
    %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Oblivion Remastered\Saved\Config\WinGDK

or this one if you have Steam/GOG/Other versions:
    %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Oblivion Remastered\Saved\Config\Windows

then hit enter and you will end up in the correct folder where to put the Engine.ini

To manually get to the correct Documents folder on Windows:
Click "This PC" -> "Windows (C:)" -> Folder called "Users" -> (Your username) -> Documents -> My Games -> Oblivion Remastered -> Saved -> Config -> WinGDK (for Xbox / Game Pass version) or Windows (for all the other versions)

    Q. When I launch the game the modded Engine.ini is automatically deleted or reverted to default one?
    A. Right-Click on my Engine.ini -> Properties -> make sure the "Read-Only" box is selected -> Apply/OK
It's important. If the file keeps getting deleted or reverted, un-tick the "Read-only" box -> Apply -> re-tick it -> Apply/OK

    Q. When I right click on Engine.ini Properties I have a security warning stating "This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer"?

    A. That's just a warning that tells you the file comes from another PC (mine). It will still work without issues.

    Q. My CPU usage is skyrocketing to 100% after the mod
    A. This is initial shader compilation which may continue in-game even after the initial precompilation loading screen. Wait 4-5 minutes at max to let the game finish it and CPU usage / performance will return normal.

    Q. I have noticeable ghosting
    A. To improve ghosting I highly recommend updating the game's DLSS .dlls to latest DLSS4 version (easiest method: DLSS Swapper) and force the "Latest" DLSS preset via NVIDIA Profile Inspector or NVIDIA App. It will make an huge difference for the better.
Also always use the latest version of the mod.

    Q. I have the same or worse performance after the mod
    A. For super high-end PCs the performance difference may be small but you should still notice reduced stuttering, more consistent 1% lows, lower input latency and better visual clarity. For mid and low-end PCs the fps difference may be much bigger on top of all that.
If for some specific PC configs you end up with worse performance try deleting shaders cache including the files which end with "cache" located in the "Saved" folder from the above path and open the game again.
If you still have worse performance just delete my Engine.ini and on next boot the game will recreate its default one.
You don't need to verify the game files or reinstall it to restore it to what it was before the mod.

    Q. Will this mod downgrade visuals/graphics?
    A. No :)
"Lossless" means this mod was created with the goal to optimize everything I could in Unreal Engine without sacrificing visuals and/or altering your in-game graphics' choices (except for Chromatic Aberration and Film Grain removal which you can still revert back by changing their described lines within the Engine.ini itself)
With improvements to AA, Sharpening, DLSS/FSR/XeSS you should actually have even better visuals after the mod.

    Q. Can I use it together with Oblivion Optimiser, Oblivion Ultra+, Oblivion "Uber-Tweaks" or whatever?
    A. No.
Don't mix my Engine.ini with other mods which will do their own optimization tweaks to the engine or they may conflict with each other.
You can try each of them separately and choose the one which performs the best for you and only use that exclusively.
You can still install any other "non-optimization" mods.

    Q. Will this Engine.ini disable Achievements?
    A. Straight and simple: no. :)

    Q. Will this Engine.ini work/load also with future game patches?
    A. Yes. Just be sure the file is set to "Read-only"

    Q. The game crashes when opening it and/or during gameplay after a while
    A. Make sure your PC is actually stable under sustained load (e.g. you are not using an excessive overclock/undervolt). You can test it using OCCT (launch a 1 hour "CPU+RAM" test, followed by another 1 hour "3D Adaptive" test. If you have even a single error, you need to fix your PC stability first)
Another solution if you use Vortex is to open it, go to the game section -> Load Order and click the last button ⛔ on the top bar ("Reset Plugins File")
If even doing the above you still crash, try lowering PoolSizeVRAMPercentage=60 (both in [TextureStreaming] and [ConsoleVariables] sections of the .ini), then remember to set the .ini to Read-only again.

    Q. Where do I see a full Changelog for all the updates done to the mod so far?
    A. Just go to the mod Description page and click the "Changelogs" button.

Medium Setting - 90 FPS Average outdoor !
    3.1 = Pure Wizardry!

Version 3.1 just killed stutters and FPS drops in my ultimate stress-test zone — walking the roads around the Imperial City, surrounded by heavy water and fire effects near the bridge.

Before 3.1, I started with 70 FPS, but a few minutes ingame (especially after the fire bridge), performance dropped to 30 FPS, and stutters became frequent.

Now, with 3.1, 90 FPS avg near imperial city — no FPS drops near the fire bridge, and stutters are 90% gone!
I also recompiled my shaders from version 2.1, which further helped reduce stutters.

Now I’m consistently getting a minimum of 60 FPS everywhere — and most importantly, it’s smooth and stutter-free! Finally, it’s perfectly playable!
    Here’s what I did:

    Config + Settings :

    https://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2025/18/7/1746311009-config1.jpg

    Performance evolution:

    • Vanilla + Framgen : 60 FPS with constant drops and 100% stuttering
    • 1.4 + Framegen : 70 FPS with frequent drops and 70% stuttering
    • 2.1 + Framegen : 70 FPS with occasional drops and 40% stuttering
    • 3.1 + Framegen : 90 FPS average, no drops near effects-heavy areas, and 90% less stuttering

I did this on a fresh steam install, and man-oh-man.. I went from having 20-30 fps on a gamepass install (which I cancelled) to running 90-100 fps!

This .ini is a miracle. From 15-20 fps outside the prison to 65-70 stable
Running on 3600XT and a 2060 with 20GB of RAM (yes).

Your mod is amazing I was wondering if you know how to fix this FSR bug I noticed after  the recent game update? anytime I go to the inv to character menu the game stutters and the exposure the colors invert for a few seconds. Also the characters face and hair on the menu is usually blurry. This is  not game breaking but it's just very ugly and jarring. It was perfectly fine before the update.
Has anyone out there noticed this but me??? I tried googling it but found no mention of this bug.

I just want to ask if I didn't install the latest game update, can I update the ini? I don't know if it's tied to game version or not.

Not tied to any specific game version, as those are all tweaks for Unreal Engine in general so you can use my modded Engine.ini with any game version

i'm gonna sound dumb but how do I update to the latest version? Do I just download like normal and replace the files or do I need to delete the old files first?

I notice a significant reduction in shadow quality when I use this file versus stock. That's probably where people are seeing increased performance

Here's a before and after. It's hard to tell in a screenshot, but the shadows have much more aliasing in motion.

      stock ini

Honestly these shots look pretty identical (with very minor differences you can notice only zooming 10x and probably only due to the slight camera position difference between the two)

If you can manage to do also a quick video comparison between Vanilla and UET I could understand more what you're talking about, if there is actually a difference between the two in motion.

I also recommend upgrading to latest DLSS (via DLSS Swapper) to improve the upscale and motion quality.

VRR version is intend to play on a G-SYNC/freesync monitor. Because what it does is force internal UE vsync OFF and allows tearing.

But I use the VRR versions on games even if Im not gonna be on a VRR monitor, I just need UEs vsync to be off because its said to be worst, and just use NVCP vsync.

tldr download/install VRR ver, go to per .exe settings in NVCP and for oblivion exe pur vsync ON,vysnc off in game. (no matter your setup)

If any of this is wrong or ill advised please delete my comment.

55 FPS without the ini on average.
55 FPS with the ini on average.

    GPU-7800XT/CPU-7600X

Does literally nothing for me. Followed the installation details clearly (which is just replacing a file in the right folder honestly)

    Thanks for trying tho.

i don't understand it and it's bizarre to me that a <40kb file from a single modder can make my AAA-game remaster run significantly better, but I'm not complaining! :D

these ini edits don't actually do anything. They can't fix fundamental issue with the code of a game, despite what people say. Usually people notice a difference in performance because shaders have properly compiled when they try again, nothing to do with these ini files. They're a placebo that do virtually nothing.
