  • Firaxis as coy as ever on modding support for XCOM, UPK files successfully loaded

In a recent talk with Joystiq about the upcoming XCOM DLC Firaxis are still being annoyingly tight-lipped and non committal on modding support for XCOM.

As for the future of XCOM, Firaxis is open to the possibilities. Regarding the potential for mods and user-created content, DeAngelis notes that "it wasn't one of our core pillars when we started the project," but the team understands how important it is to the community. "It's something that we'd like to resolve going f...

  • Finding the first step

Right now the North Americans are happily playing away at XCOM while most of the rest of the world waits until tomorrow to get their mits on it. However, that hasn't stopped some budding modders trying to work their way in to the XCOM file and config setups.

Obviously things are going to get off to a slow start as people poke and prod at the game to try and get something out of it, but consider working together with others on our XCOM modding forums who are already working hard ...

  • XCOM Nexus Launched

It is with great pleasure that I announce the launch of XCOM Nexus ready in time for the release of XCOM – Enemy Unknown this week (Tuesday in America, Friday in most other places).

If somehow you’re not aware, the X-COM series of games are considered massive cult classics with a whole wealth of depth that has never been replicated in the 15 years since the last proper game was released in the series. You play as the commander of a top secret agency tasked with protecting the wo...

  • Redkit beta sign-ups closing soon!

CDProjekt recently announced their plans to release an SDK for The Witcher 2 and they've asked for help from as many modders as possible to make this the best kit possible. They're planning to do a closed beta to begin with before releasing the kit to the general public. As a modder, this would be your chance to have your say in the creation of the kit as well as get a great head-start on any of your modding plans. Here's the blurb from the official site:

    We are still ac...

  • The Nexus 10 year anniversary

This week in August marks the 10 year anniversary of the Nexus sites. I launched Morrowind Chronicles at the age of 15 back in August of 2001. What started as a general purpose news and information site for Morrowind has now spread in to a multi-site network of mod databases that are some of the largest modding sites in the world. I feel a great sense of achievement and pride for this great community which is a testament to some great games and some great modders. And what's best, I feel like I'...

  • New file feature: change logs

Some of the site features I have in the pipe-line or on the to-do list right now are focusing on trying to reduce the amount of clutter mod authors put in their file descriptions by providing them separate areas to list important information. One thing that I know many users find annoying is having to try and find a description of a mod underneath all the other information mod authors feel is more important than actually describing what their mod does. Popular things to put at tops of pages are ...

  • Witcher 2, patch 1.2 tomorrow plus new DLC

CDProjekt held their live conference stream today. At it's peak there were around 13,500 people watching the stream live so it was quite laggy but I could get most of the details. We were promised a big announcement; sadly for PC players there wasn't much to get excited about. I took down a few bulleted notes. 400,000 TW2 sales in 1 week My notes: whether this is total sales or retail+GoG sales but not Steam+D2D sales is unknown. This figure is very good for a PC only exclusive made in...

  • The Witcher 1 mod categories added with new mods

After receiving some strong feedback from a few members of the Witcher modding community I have now added categories for the original "The Witcher". I'd like to offer my thanks to MadBonsai and Corylea for their help and feedback on the subject. To help get the ball rolling in the new section Corylea has been kind enough to upload her back catalogue of mods, including her sequel to the widely enjoyed Medical Problems - The Village Mystery, titled Medical Problems 2 - The Witcher Disease. I as...

  • The Witcher Nexus launched

Welcome to The Witcher Nexus, the fifth Nexus site in the Nexus network. So what's the story? If you're new to using a Nexus site then hi there! Nexus sites are community driven mod hosting sites that let mod authors share their mods with mod users easily, quickly and efficiently. No fuss, no waiting around. We're a community of 2.2 million mod authors and users, and counting! I originally didn't plan on releasing a Nexus site for The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings until I could assess the i...
