Oblivion
  • Expected down-time today

There is an underlying issue with the network infastructure of the two new servers that needs to be resolved. Work will be taking place some time today for approximately two hours. During this time the site may be offline or you might see "IPS Driver" errors and other similar mysql related errors. Please be patient while I continue to weed out the teething issues of the server move. Thank you! Edit@16:40GMT: This work has now been completed. No more expected down-time \o...

  • File server issues

There is currently an issue with accessing all the file servers as a result of the domain switch yesterday. While a fix has been made that should sort the issue the problem will not actually be resolved until the name servers have updated, and then your ISP's DNS cache has propogated. This can take anywhere from 1 to 72 hours. I apologise for the inconvenience and recommend you check back regularly, making sure to try the different file servers available. Also please note that some people wil...

  • Server move complete

Welcome back! If you're reading this message then you're browsing The Elder Scrolls Nexus at its new home on a new server. I pulled both TESNexus, FO3Nexus and the forums down at 14:20 GMT and as of 17:00 GMT the site is back up and operational, an hour earlier than expected. Thank you for your patience while the site was unavailable. There are still a few issues to iron out in regards to the name servers the domains use that might mean over the next few days you get limbo'd about between the...

  • Scheduled site down-time for 8 hours

As a follow up to my last news article on FO3Nexus in which I detail the reasons why the two Nexus sites are performing slowly I have hammered out a deal with my main server provider for a new rack provisioning that should better accommodate both sites while providing me with ample room for expansion in the future. In order for me to make the transition into this new server rack I will need to bring both sites, as well as the forums, down during the move. This is to insure that the versions o...

  • Slow site and errors, fixes coming

Hi folks, Over the past couple of days you might have noticed that both this site and TESNexus have been running relatively slowly and you might have got a few SQL errors here and there. This is due to a few teething issues that have come from the launch of Fallout 3 Nexus. On Thursday I discovered that the link-up between the two servers that the two sites run on was using up a large amount of bandwidth that, if left unchecked, would leave me with atleast a $4000 bandwidth overage bill on...

  • Censorship on the Nexus

Since we have many new users on this site, this is a repost of the sites policy on censorship of uploaded material: Fallout3Nexus is based on the free exchange of ideas and materials in support of "The Fallout Community", and as a rule does not censor any uploaded images or materials. The basic premise is this; If we were to remove a file because any individual or group of individuals find something offensive, the site would eventually have no files available for download, as someone will al...

  • No mods for consoles, DLC and no official word on construction set

Spotted over at NMA, Pete has been talking in a Eurogamer chat about a variety of subjects. Of note to the modding community are these Q&As: Q. Can you tell us more about the upcoming PC and Xbox 360 downloadable content for Fallout 3? Pete Hines: Uh, probably not more than you've already heard. We're working on stuff that adds multiple hours of gameplay; new quests, content, enemies, etc. Something along the lines of Knights of the Nine for Oblivion in size and scope. Beyond that, it'll p...

  • The current state of Fallout 3 modding

Throttlekitty has posted up a nice update on the current state of Fallout 3 modding on the official forums. Here is what he had to say: For those of you just joining, here's a quick summary of the state of Fallout 3 modding. We're in the early stages, manipulating data, figuring out what's what. Basic plugin-based mods can be made, as well as retexturing, UI mods, and sound/music. With some work, new models can mostly be made. Modding Fallout 3 will be very similar to Oblivion, many aspect...

  • First .esp Fallout 3 mod uploaded

Today saw the first downloadable .esp mod uploaded to Fallout 3 Nexus provided by Throttlekitty. Here's the blurb: This modification adds a rapier to the game, and has cloned stats of the Chinese Officers Sword. The sword cannot be purchased or found yet, so a console command is needed to 'cheat' it into your inventory. Also, this is an experimental 'first-run' mod, and was created largely in a hex editor, and as such, there are minor problems. (A Construction Set isn't available yet,...

  • How to replace textures in Fallout 3

Late last night JosefGrey messaged me on the site letting me know he had worked out how to replace textures within Fallout 3 and whether I was interested in the process. I latched on to his request straight away and JosefGrey kindly offered to write a tutorial on the subject. Along with his tutorial he also provided a screenshot of a swanky little texture edit to prove his changes worked, lipgloss in Fallout 3! While Josef's example might only be small, this process paves the way for much gre...

  • First Fallout 3 mods released

SDK or no SDK, it doesn't matter to some of the talented individuals in the Fallout 3/Elder Scrolls community who have released the first mods for Fallout 3. And here they are: Remove compass POI markers by Silverglade Realistic Gunshot Sounds by Honnou Remove NPCs from Compass by ckinniburgh Remove NPCs and Waypoints from Compass by ckinniburgh Remove Waypoints from Compass by ckinniburgh Congratulations to all three modders who can safely say they were the first community members to ...

  • New Elder Scrolls game for 2010?

According to GamesIndustry.biz Bethesda are potentially looking to release a new Elder Scrolls game around 2010. This comes from a chat with Paul Oughton, publishing executive for Bethesda: At the moment we've got Fallout 3 for this year and potentially there's a new Elder Scrolls title in 2010," said Oughton. "At the moment we're not that interested in the Wii. We're going to stick to PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. We'll continue to pursue three or four titles a year and go for big titles," he said o...

  • Fallout 3 mods: BSA files, UI overhauls and script extenders

So it's about 30 hours after the release of Fallout 3 in America and in the absence of an SDK from Bethesda the modding devout have begun exploring the technicalities and similarities of Fallout 3 to Oblivion in the hope of gleaning some valuable information on modability. First off there's been some exploration into the extraction of the BSA files that Fallout 3 uses to store textures, sounds and animations for the game. The hope is that if we can extract these files we will be able to modif...

  • Fallout 3 DRM/SecuROM fix

The official forums has a thread on fixing a glitch with the "non-intrusive" Fallout 3 SecuROM system that is designed to ensure you're running a legit copy of the game. Drevin over at the official forums (and Skotte here at the Nexus Forums) points people to a patch on the SecuROM site along with these helpful pointers: Only use this patch if you are getting an unwarranted securom emulation error! This will not fix any other issue. Edit: Making it clear. To Install 1- Right click o...

  • Fallout 3 Nexus launches

This is just a quick one for all the users of TESNexus who are going to be buying Fallout 3 that I have just launched Fallout 3 Nexus to the public. The hope is for FO3Nexus to be to Fallout 3 modding what TESNexus is to Oblivion modding. If you're going to be playing Fallout 3, hope to mod the game or if you're interested, head on over to the site now for a peek at what's to come. Of course the site is rather bare at the moment, what with the game not actually officially released for a few m...

  • Site launch

Welcome one and all to Fallout 3 Nexus. The official release of Fallout 3 in the states is only hours away now and I have chosen this time, coming up to midnight GMT, to launch Fallout 3 Nexus; a database driven file-sharing community website and sister site to TESNexus. Fallout 3 Nexus is a site that runs in parallel to TESNexus in objectives, technology and design with one obvious difference; Fallout 3 Nexus is for, you guessed it, Fallout 3. As with TESNexus, the goal of FO3Nexus is not to...
