  • Blocking files with specific tags from category view

One thing I hear a lot from people when browsing the file databases is that finding a file that suits what you're looking for can often be quite hard when browsing categories that have hundreds and hundreds of files in. The tagging system was brought in a couple of years ago to help with that problem by allowing you to only see files in categories with specific tags attributed to them that provide a bit more drill-down depth in category browsing. However, what if there's a specific tag that ...

  • Dungeon Defenders Nexus launched

And now for something completely different..! I'm pleased to announce the launch of Dungeon Defenders Nexus which I hope will be a helpful resource for Dungeon Defenders players and mod authors. It might come as a surprise to be launching this site so close to the launch of Skyrim but I have Dungeon Defenders to thank for helping me retain my sanity while we all wait for Skyrim to come out and I've clocked countless hours already levelling up all my characters. If you haven't heard of Dungeon...

We're now in to week two of our Facebook and steam Skyrim competition and we're well on target for getting to the 10,000 likes on Facebook and 2,500 members in our Steam group before the 9th of November (at which point the last draw will be for 2 free copies of Skyrim for each competition!). • First Skyrim competition winner announced

So here we are, the first Wednesday of our Facebook page competition. Over the past 24 hours almost 1,000 more users have liked our Facebook page, and we've had double the number of people join our Steam community, so great stuff! In fact, just for added incentive and to increase your chances of winning, if we get 10,000 likes on Facebook before the 9th of November (the last Wednesday before Skyrim's launch) I'll do a double-draw that day, so two people can win. And not to leave out the Steam gr...

  • 5 chances to win a free copy of Skyrim

According to the infallible Skyrim launch countdown on Skyrim Nexus we are close to 3 weeks short of the official launch of Skyrim on 11.11.11. That's 3 weeks to mentally prepare yourself for getting very little sleep, and stockpiling as much hand-food and caffeinated drinks as possible. Because we've got 3 weeks left, and because we've got 2.5 million members and only 5,700 likes on Facebook and 600 members on our Steam Group, I'm going to run a very simple competition (please don't heckle m...

  • Nexus Mod Manager entering phase 2 of release

Back in September I officially announced the work we've been doing on a Nexus Mod Manager. To recap, we will soon be releasing a Nexus Mod Manager that expands and improves upon the current OBMM and FOMM offerings. On top of the mod managing capabilities you expect, the Nexus Mod Manager will integrate with the sites, allowing you to one-click download and install from the sites themselves through the manager. And what's more, it's free, advertisement free, and completely open source. We...

  • Modding competition closes tonight

Just a reminder that the 2.5 millionth member competition closes tonight at 12am GMT, so you now have a little under 12 hours to publish your mods to the competition category if you want them to be accepted for the competition. Good luck!...

  • Nexus hits 2.5 million registered members, competition ending soon

In the early hours of the morning of the 2nd of October 2011 the Nexus sites hit their latest registered member milestone of 2,500,000, just a couple of months past the 10 year anniversary of the sites. Recording for the current number of members originally began back in July of 2003 when Morrowind Chronicles became Morrowind Source and I moved to using Invision Board from YaBB. I'm not sure there are any still-active members from that period in the site's history, but I'd love to hear from you ...

  • Nexus modding competition nearing closing date

The Nexus 2.5 millionth member competition is coming up on its closing date. Set to mark the 2.5 millionth member to register on the Nexus sites, modders have the chance to win some cash prizes ($350, $100 and $50 respectively) for Oblivion, New Vegas and Dragon Age. All you have to do is create a mod that reflects the modding community: The theme of this modding competition will be "The community we are in". I'm hoping to see some great mods that cover users in the community that might have...

  • Nexus Mod Manager, the Nexus Client, entering closed BETA

In some of my past blog posts I've been alluding to a project in development for the Nexus sites that, at the time, I wasn't prepared to go in to details on. I am now happy to announce that a Mod and Download manager, named the Nexus Client, is going in to Closed Beta with some select mod authors from Fallout 3 Nexus and New Vegas Nexus in the next few days. Plans for the Nexus Client were laid down back in December of last year when I was approached by Kaburke, the current developer working...

  • Day 2 - Nexus redesign

So here we are, almost at the end of day 2 since the Nexus site redesign launch. I've been spending most of my time on bug fixes and tweaks based on the feedback you've all been giving me. Thank you for, in the most part, remaining calm and constructive during this period. I'm just going to go through a few of the major and minor things that keep coming up in the feedback and run you through of the changes already made, and a few upcoming changes. First of all my apologies to the IE8 users...

  • New redesign implemented

If you're reading this then you're looking at the new Nexus site design. If this is a surprise to you then sorry! I've been keeping people informed through the site news and blog posts over the past few months so try and check in every now and again and see what new stuff is getting added to the sites. This new design is the combination of many months of hard work between myself and a professional web designer trying to get things, to start with, how I wanted it and then following some constr...

  • Nexus redesign finalised, launching next week

A few weeks back I posted a heads-up regarding my plans to launch a redesigned look to the Nexus Sites by the end of August. The feedback to the redesign was mostly good and some of the constructive criticism provided has either already been incorporated in to the final design or has been noted, perhaps for addition later on down the line. Listed below are test examples for each of the Nexus Sites. These are very close to final now and I'm not going to be making any major changes before the c...

  • Bethesda Forums hacked... again

For those of you who haven't been on the official forums for a bit, you may want to do so. While the passwords have all been deleted so that no one can access your account, it'd be best to just reset it and get it over with. If you have an account, that is. On the login page, you'll see this message: Please Read! August 12, 2011 We have identified a potential breach of our forum user database that occurred Friday morning, Aug 12. We have reset your forum password as a precaution, in ...

  • [COMPLETE] Server move today

The server move is now complete, but as sod's (or Murphy's) law dictates, we hit a few snags along the way so we had a few hours of down-time. If you find any issues please let me know. ---- Just wanted to let you all know that I am in the process of moving TESNexus over to a new server today. While the server itself is coping perfectly fine right now the hard-drives have been low on space for some time and my hosting provider in the UK, Krystal, offered me a nice deal in which if I bought...

  • Bethesda forums and websites hacked: usernames, emails, and passwords potentially taken

GStaff has just announced via the BethBlog that the Bethesda forums and websites were the subject of a hacking attempt/attack over the weekend. GStaff claims that no financial info was taken but usernames, emails, and passwords may have been accessed. If you have an account over on the Bethsoft forums, changing your password is recommended. If you use the same password on the Nexus (or other sites) it is definitely a good idea to change those passwords as well. At the moment Bethesda has n...

  • Site down-time this evening explained

Hi folks, We've had a bit of down-time this evening (5pm-8pm GMT). Initially it was thought the network was under a much more potent DDoS attack than the last one but the hosts have managed to get their heads around it and it looks like they have gotten to the bottom of it. It was a DDoS attack of sorts but I'll keep the details secret so I don't give anyone any ideas ;) The "good news" is that (unless anyone want to come forward and say to the contrary) this DDoS attack was not directed ...

  • File upload size limit increased to 1Gb (1024Mb)

As video games get more advanced and the modding scene continues to mature the quality, quantity and size of mods grows with it. Up until today the file size limit for file uploads has been 300Mb as this size was deemed appropriate for almost all modifications that weren't massive texture replacers. I think that situation has now changed. Bigger and more advanced modifications are released regularly now and in response to requests from various mod authors I've decided to up the file size limi...

  • The Witcher Nexus launched

In case you haven't noticed there's a new Nexus site on the block, The Witcher Nexus, that has been set up to support the developing Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings modding community. The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings was released last week across the world and has received very favourable reviews from critics. The site is fully functional but quite bare, as you'd expect from a new game without an SDK. However I'll be doing the rounds trying to get in contact with the various Witcher mod auth...
