Didn't tinker all too much with this, but I thought it was an intriguing and quite delicious concept, both in the imagining and the execution. I do have to warn though, for those using alternate starts watch out, I wasn't paying attention and got slaughtered. XD
This mod is awesome! Very well thought out, really adds suspense. I never saw the first ambush coming.
*CONTAINS SPOILER ON ONE OF THE LOCATIONS! *
My first encounter was in a ruin similar in name to an action star. I landed the killing blow on a certain possessed woman, my killing observed by an unseen force (didn't know killing her counted as murder). Then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a shadow skirt across the balcony above me. Confused, I thought to myself "probably another rat." Bam! Next thing I know, I'm face down in the dirt, paralyzed. The bugger put up more of a fight than the aforementioned woman! The note was the cherry on top.
So far, that has been my only encounter. I need a horse before I can do much traveling. I am worried that the assassins won't attack me now that I've been visited in my sleep. I don't plan to kill Rufio any time soon, though.
Very great mod! It will keep the game a little more on the edge, but If you just want the dark brotherhood robes then kill the messenger when he comes to you in your sleep.
This is a great mod. I've only had it for a short time, but love it already. I like how some arn't just guys hiding, waiting for you to pass, but are set up to lure you in so they can attack whe you least expect it. (Like the one where you find a note by the road...I actually didn't see it coming. I thought it was from another mod.) I love it. Really makes walking on the roads more interesting.
My only complaint is that I would make them a lot tougher. I'd also make their weapons more diverse, and have the loot from their bodies be a bit better.
I'm ok with the limited number of killers not respawning. I'm combining it with Kill the Dark Brotherhood, a mod that lets you wipe them out once and for all, so I'm glad they disappear after a while.
They could be tougher, though. I read that you're working on adding jumping and dodging. Don't forget some paralyze arrows.
Oh, I'm here to tell you that my assassins attack each other, and random other people on the road. I'm lucky if one targets me and only me. Is this just a mod conflict?
You should make it that they come back in a week or so to try to silence you again. I want the assassins to keep trying to attempt to kill me again every week or so.
Viviroth -> The file is an esp-file. Just place the file directly in your oblivion/data directory (don't use winzip/winrar or anything) and remember to check it in the data files menu when you launch the game.
Whynotme12349 -> They shouldn't attack you if you're in the DB... And it works fine on my machine.
The Dark Brother -> I'm affraid I can't make the locations random because of the trigger effect I use. This effect makes attacks like the skingrad bridge possible, but it also makes it so I can't spawn the NPC's like bandits and creatures (spawnpoints with a percentage of spawning) - without making a non-ambush.

Try using IZArc or 7-zip, sorry I don't have a link.I've had that problem before as well and using one of those solved it.
Hope that helps! ">
