why did you claim there are no bugs i have no other mods installed (other than the unofficial patches) at the time of writing this and have ran into multiple quest breaking bugs

Of course you may be right, but please, remember that many so-called "bugs" result from faulty installation. (Plus double check if you have actually downloaded everything that's needed.) It'd be very useful to know how you have installed this mod, what your load order is, what system you play on, where you have installed the game - the more details accompany your claim about bugginess, the better. Otherwise it's just a personal opinion. I'm sure that if you offer details there will be a few people here who can respond with some advice.

Before you download this mod, there's a few things you should know. This is the best player home (mod or official) I have seen for Oblivion: you will get a large castle, NPCs (the merchants are better than any in the base game), and awesome gear. That said, the part where you have to "earn" all of this can be a real pain in the ass, as many people have complained about. I'm all for quests that don't hold your hand too much, but some parts (especially the 2nd quest) are damn near impossible to complete without cheating or using walkthroughs. In the readme, the author implies that you "have no brain" if you can't figure out these quests and the secrets inside the castle, but I promise you, you WILL get stuck at one point or another. Here is a list of places that you will need to look up a walkthrough or use the 'tlc' console command (to locate the hidden areas):

    For quest 1:
-The very first secret door. Until you know what the hidden switches look like, you most likely won't be able to find it. After that, I typically had no issue finding them.
-Although I personally had no issue with it, there is an underwater labyrinth where it can be hard to see. Make sure to have some way to breath underwater (you can get the Jewel of Rumare at the very beginning of the game), and make sure to use your local map.
-There a couple of times in these quests where you will find multiple switches next to each other, and you have to activate them in a certain order. Pressing the wrong one results in being zapped for a good amount of damage. There are ZERO clues on which order to do, you have to do them through trial and error. Make sure to have plenty of health before attempting these.

    For quest 2:
-This quest is by far the most buggy, and has some of the most BS parts imo.
-You need to look for clues between the castle and the inn. There is no marker, and what you're looking for is hidden in a bush by a rock (that is NOT between the castle and inn btw, instead its off to the side). You will not find this unless you watch a guide, or have the patience of a Buddhist monk. Seriously, I spent nearly 20 minutes on this part before I caved and just watched a walkthrough.
-There are several secret walls you need to find in order to continue through the quest, so keep an eye out for odd looking walls.
-After completing the part in the blood caverns where you enter a portal and get an amulet, you are prompted to search the area for the secret vault with the special loot and armor. You will not find this, I promise you. You have to climb one of the fort walls, find a rope amongst some stuff hanging from the ceiling, and then look up and climb a ladder. Be careful with this part, as you will hear something open after pulling the rope, but it took me a while to figure out that what was opening was above me.

    Bugs:
Despite the author's claim that there are no bugs, there are several that I personally encountered. I know that I'm not alone, just take a look at some of the other posts. Why any modder would claim that their mod has no bugs is beyond me. They're mods, there's always bugs.
-To begin the second quest, you have to speak to one of your guards, but when you do there will be no prompts to select. From what I can tell, this bug is very common so expect to see it. To get around this, you can actually hover your mouse over where the prompt WOULD be, and click it. The conversation will continue as normal.
-After entering the portal and killing the guards, you are supposed to pick up the amulet. In my case, the amulet simply disappeared after the initial animation. If you run in to this, try saving your game and loading, this worked for me for whatever reason.
-There are likely to be other bugs you may encounter, the above are just the ones that I personally experienced. Honestly, I'm very surprised that there weren't more bugs, considering how much content is included in the mod.

Despite how harsh I may seem, I actually really loved this mod. It isn't without its flaws, but if you muscle through it, the rewards are really awesome. As I said, this is my favorite player home for Oblivion, with only Shadowcrest Vineyard coming close. Give it a chance, just make sure to have YouTube on standby for when you get stuck.

The only problem I've encountered is there are spots on the ground with terrible collision detection. My character keeps tripping over them and gets stuck in a animation loop where he constantly jumps up and down.

It's particularly notable on the main road outside and on the ground next to the Sheep Pen. Which is really irritating because that's where the first Fast Travel marker drops you off at.

I managed to fix myself though by going into the CS and using the landscape function to smooth the ground a bit. Doing the road outside though is going to be a pain in the ass.

Yeah, I get the Ylgar bug where he doesn't talk and I get nothing down at the bottom. It's one of the most annoying bugs that I have ever come across. Thanks for the suggestion for a work around. I will try it and hope that it works.

    Hello there.

Rather a curious post, I'm just keen to see if you'd entertain the idea, of remaking this mod for SKYBLIVION, as and when it eventually releases. I loved this mods for years and years in oblivion and i think it could be made even more awesome in the newer engine and with skyblivion's new castle assets. No pressure obviously I'm keen to see what mod authors feelings are to making/remaking mods for skyblivion...

    All the best.

    Hi,

one question before i start using this mod: in the description it's mentioned, that the 2nd Quest will start a few days after you "Fast Traveled" to the castle for the first time. I don't use fast travel, so does this mean the 2nd quest will not start when i'm just going there without fast travelling?

Quartz went a long time ago. It can't hurt him now. But I know what you mean and it's nice to read that someone else cares **how** criticism is offered. So many amazing modders - like Quartz - just disappear that I wonder sometimes if the constant demands and the drip, drip, drip of sometimes really unpleasant criticism gets to them. In the past few months I've seen several talented and amazing modders go and reading some of the stuff they put up with, I can't blame them. Oblivion is an old game now but when Glenvar hit the scene it was a breath of fresh air. Quartz wasn't a hand-holder so some parts of Glenvar were really tricky to solve. Inevitably, some people hated that and the more you push the CK to its limits, the more problems there are. The issue really is about finding a kind and constructive way of saying: I don't like this. Perhaps that isn't easy either but for the sake of all those modders who *will* disappear in the coming months, perhaps those of us who comment need to find ways of being nice about our criticisms...

"Use your brain to figure things out. If you don't have one, at least use your eyes and pretend you're clever"
Jesus Christ. This is the funniest thing I've read on this forum. I can't tell if you're edgy, or if you really want to have a galaxy brain. bRUH

Hello! I got this mod and I just finished the first quest and am about to see where to fix up the castle, but I just have to ask, why are there so many secret rooms in that vampire area? Actually to be completely honest.. I couldn't go always without using TCL in console commands because there would be walls and other strange things that I couldn't pass through. Is it normally like that? Were there secret buttons and switches I weren't seeing? I'm very sure I didn't see any though. Anyway I'm really liking this mod so far, so I hope that there's some way I can fix this.
