Hello everyone! We've had to migrate this from a Google doc to Nexus and wrestle with bbcode, so if there's any weird formatting, it will be ironed out in time! Note also that our Google doc fell slightly out of sync with our Nexus version here, and may have become more up-to-date, so if there's any dead links, or outdated advice, we'll be fixing it up in the near future! More images to come, as well as likely tweaks to the list and its presentation as we get feedback and cool mods come out or get updated. We wanted to get this out for Oblivion's anniversary--or at least I was rather obsessed with that--and we just made it. Happy birthday, Oblivion!
Let us know what you think--you can drop feedback here or in our Discord (preferably)--and let us know if there's any obvious issues in the guide.
I may be posting this, but this was a colossal group effort from a dozen community members let alone the dozens more who made the mods that make it cool. Special thank yous to everyone listed in the credits section--I'm just here to host the Nexus page and judge the choices of the guys who actually put the guide together. :)
I'm trying to install DarNified UI. None of the DarNified UI ini tweaks appear in the Wrye Bash Ini Edits tab, and when I load the game my text is black and overlapping each other. Please help, thank you.
It is a possibility you didn't setup the FOMOD correctly. If you join our Discord server, linked in the guide description, we could more easily help you.
I’m just wishing one day we can use Better Cities in massive curated mod lists without it being excluded for stability.. I know it’s massive, but I wonder what to remove if we were to get a lite version.
like surely a bunch of quest mods and new locations in this list, added up have to be close.. but I feel like all those mods are more stable together than just Better Cities.. what would be the first thing to thin out to make it stable?
You can use Better Cities actually. It's quite stable these days all things considered. You just gotta consider compatibility with other mods. Also, performance might not be everyone's cup of tea. But if you have an X3D CPU, it solves them through bruteforce. You could also cheat with Lossless Scaling framegen.
The reason why we don't use it is due to not wanting to go too crazy and trying to make performance a priority.
Wait really? I know they have been putting in work with these regular updates over the years... and the new additions of performance mods.
Also, are there any high resolution or performance-heavy mods that are used here that you would think would help alot to be removed (or maybe instead download smaller texture/mesh etc. versions of those files) for better cities?
This modlist with Better Cities (And obviously trying to find all the compatibility issues, but worth it imo) would be AMAZING.
Also one more question, there were two pretty innovative mods that came out, I think 2019 or 2020 -- and it was basically that NPCs faces would turn into a low poly LOD. It apparently saved a good few FPS in crowded cities... but I haven't seen it recently at all
As long as you have Oblivion Reloaded Combined, there is little consequences with using high resolution texture packs. I would even recommend using the Better Cities Upscaled Textures mod by Slowpard.
Regarding LOD heads, we don't use it because we don't need it at all and it can look distracting, some versions were buggy too. Although the most recent version of it is probably okay. You're free to use it.
By the way... do you think maybe that these mods--- storms and sounds + immersive interiors, could somehow be compatible with current modlists such as this?
The best memory I have of Oblivion is going into a Chorrol Inn and seeing the outsides from Immersive Interiors, seeing the rain, and then seeing Lightning flash while indoors...
Man I wish I could learn to do all that... But "Storms and Sounds" is such an old mod, I dunno how to replicate it... It says it has an OBSE version that, (as it says in a description from almost a decade ago--) should work for all future weather mods...
Do you think that Storms and Sounds could be compatible with this modlist? Also thank you for answering!!!!!!!!
I followed the instructions to a T and my game simply wont load. started with "CIBFilterPatch.esp is missing master file "LoversAdultPlayPlusforSSP.esp" error. No idea what that is but when i googled it, it came up with some kind of porn addon that i have no interest in because im not 16 years old. Is there a way to fix this? or do i just have to delete this list of mods i spent THREE HOURS INSTALLING???
Perhaps don't jump to conclusions next time, buddy? That's a Filter Patch. The guide gets to that at the Bashed Patch section. Basically, you don't need the porn mod. That Filter just happened to support it because Ir4n is a horny Russian, and he'd be the first to admit it, lol.
Wont be a problem, after this experience I just deleted the game, I don't have the emotional energy left in me or the time to go through each individual mod and figure out where the problem is. Thanks for the response.
So you spent three hours installing one of the most brief sections of the guide in both file size and mods. Afterwards, you panicked over weird masters that aren't required at all, then jumped to conclusions and panicked to the point of making an overreaction of a post on the Nexus comments instead of asking a simple question, then wanting to give up over it. When clarification is given, you give up anyways? Sounds like modding Bethesda games are not for you, my friend.
Yeah I've modded Morrowind, Skyrim, Fallout 3, NV, Fallout 4, RDR, RDR2, I'm 38 this isn't my first game. Which is also why I know I dont have it in me to go through, one by one, trying to figure out the answer to fixing a mod that I never even installed. Which is why I posted the question. And the answer was to chill out.
You can list as many games as you wish, doesn't mean you had the patience to mod them correctly. I answered the question and provided clarification. You basically confessed that you gave up because your ego got hurt. Again, chill out.
My ego had nothing to do with it. I work 50 hours a week, I don't have the time or energy to try to figure it out. Your response was not an answer, considering I lead by saying I had gone through the entire guide meticulously and followed the steps exactly as described, and still had a problem, and your response was "it's in the guide". I do appreciate that you took time to respond.
"I work 50 hours a week". Oh, I highly doubt that. Nobody with a life or things to do responds this unreasonably and continues to waste their time on a Nexus comment section like this.
This guide was really well explained and concise, thanks a lot. Took maybe two hours or so to set it all up, and I did it while working. Through it I learned a decent bit so I started adding a few other mods too.
One thing I noticed that may already be known, the No Inventory On Alt-Tab mod disabled Tab being used to open the Journal when Running is toggled on. When character is in Walking mode, it works. I disabled it and it all works fine in either Running or Walking mode, so not a big deal specifically. I tried using it in a Nehrim install just to check if I had the same issue there and I did, dunno if it´s a config from the mod or intended behavior, but figured I'd leave a comment regardless.
Since it's relevant, I discovered this before I added any other mods, which were just related to Character Creation (OCO v2 Merged Hair Compilation).
Hi, did the Green section for CORE and ran into an issue on startup stating a debug error, not sure what I've done wrong. Has this been an issue encountered before?
Hi! I followed all the green part + graphicals&sound + late, but it seems I have issue with plugins of OBSE not installed properly (3 errors messages IG): I can install them manualy by copy/past in OBSE folder, but I think it's not the best solution.
What I'm missing please?
edit: MO2 need to launch the game via Oblivion.exe, and not obse_loader.exe, my bad.
Hej I followed your guide and learned some things about Oblivion modding, thanks a lot. Just great. Generating LOD, the highlight of my day. No major problems. Looks very good. Now I look forward to playing. Update: I am a few hours and in game runs well, beautiful colorful landscapes that I was missing in the remaster even though it has its moments. LODs looking good too. No crashes so far.
So I followed almost everything in this guide and most of the game is pretty stable. I just have one bug I can't seem to find the fix for. Argonians have empty eye sockets, every other race is fine but somehow for them its just not there and I can see through it. I have no idea what might be causing it as I haven't installed any eye mods except for the ones in the guide

Immersive Interiors would be more problematic. You must scope out for patches for both All Natural AND Immersive Interiors, then test a lot more.

But good to know.
I hope that you like the guide overall despite that small issue.
