I created this mod with visual assets in mind, but it can also be considered lore-friendly.
Let's deep dive into it:
- Both the Blades and the Imperial Guard are elite forces of the Legion, so it makes sense for them to wear similar types of equipment. And the Blades armor has no faction specific insignia or decorations to exclude other forces from wearing it.
- Oblivion's Blades armor is heavily inspired by lorica segmentata. It's basically late Roman armor with slight helmet variations. The general consensus is that the legionary armor are "roman", but in TES3 and TES5 it's actually DnD archer with roman helmet and greek lorica musculata. TES4 for the legion also uses hellenistic... uh, i mean it uses spartan helmets and shields from the "300" movie mixed with the orcish armors from the "LOTR" movies: jagged late medieval armor with spartan horse mane helmet made of not bronze. It's an odd ball compared to the other entries in series. So the legion armor's depiction is changing from one game to another, same as the other designs. Like the glass armor is crystals in Morrowind but something blown into shape in Oblivion, and pure world of Warcraft in Skyrim. Yes, we have completely left the realm of reality grounded design and moved into the territory where the chainmail can weigh less than plate. Accurate nor realistic armor depiction is not the point of these games.
I'd say the devs themselves don’t seem to have rigid approach on how armor should look across the games. So, if you like how it looks, just use it. But yes, it doesn’t contradict the lore. *shrug*
