   I like the idea, though considering how much time had passed between the fall of the Ayleids and the events of Oblivion, you'd think no actual hearts would be left.

      Thanks for the comment. I agree, it's definitely a bit far fetched. That said, the same could be said for many items found throughout the ruins.
      
      I was tempted to call it Dried Deadra Heart or something of the sort to account for the time, or something else entirely.

      In real life we have found mummified organs of ancient Egyptians over 5,000 years old. "Dried Ayleid Heart" implies it was mummified. Not out of the realm of real.
