About this mod

A natural and realistic ReShade Preset that stays true to vanilla Oblivion's vibrant atmosphere. Made to be used with Oblivion Reloaded and NAO.

Requirements
Permissions and credits

Hey there! This is a ReShade Preset I've been working on and am finally satisfied enough with to release. It aims to be natural and realistic, but stays true to vanilla Oblivion's vibrant atmosphere. It takes advantage of Marty McFly's amazing qUINT Shaders to provide high-quality visuals at a minimal cost to performance. It's made to be used with Oblivion Reloaded and NAO.

IMPORTANT: ReShade is very user-friendly and relatively easy to install, but there are some extra steps particular to Oblivion you'll need to follow to minimize any visual weirdness that might occur. These steps will be detailed in the Installation section of this page, so please read through it thoroughly and follow them!

ReShade 5.8.0 with Full Add-On Support by crosire

Oblivion ReShade Helper by doodlum

Oblivion Reloaded Combined by GBRPluss / Oblivion Reloaded E3* by mcstfuerson

NAO - Natural and Atmospheric Oblivion by l00ping

*This is the version I use. I haven't tested ORC, but you can probably use ORC if you'd prefer. There may be some visual differences between the two, however.

Enhanced Water v20 HDMI by XenoGenesis

SonicEthers Beaming Sunglare* by theLeeHarvey

Far Cry Inspired Grass - Expanded by laulajatar

IFTBark2012 from Improved Trees and Flora 2 by miknmel1

*This will not work out-of-the-box with NAO. I'll detail the extra steps in the Installation section.

Installation of the mods will be divided into four sections: Oblivion Reloaded, General Mods, SonicEthers Beaming Sunglare, and ReShade + ReShade Helper + Naturalis.

Oblivion Reloaded

Spoiler:
Show
Install either Oblivion Reloaded Combined or Oblivion Reloaded E3. I use ORE3 and haven't tested ORC, but ORC is probably fine. There may be some visual differences if you use ORC.

You'll need to make some edits to the INI. At minimum, disable OR Water under [Shaders] by setting it to 0. You need to disable it because it becomes invisible with ReShade installed in my experience. Vanilla Water doesn't become invisible. Install Enhanced Water v20 HDMI to supplement it if you'd prefer.

I recommend you also re-enable the vanilla Underwater by setting RemoveUnderwater under [Main] to 0 and setting Underwater under [Effects] to 0.

I recommend setting OR's AmbientOcclusion under [Effects] to 0 to disable it. ReShade already has AO, so you can free up some performance by disabling OR's AO.

You can re-enable the vanilla Precipitations as well if you'd like more subtle rain. Set RemovePrecipitations under [Main] to 0 and Precipitations under [Effects] to 0.

You can test other shaders and effects such as Volumetric Fog. OR is very customizable, so have fun!

These are some of the relevant settings in the [Main], [Shaders], and [Effects] sections of my OblivionReloaded.ini.

General Mods

Spoiler:
Show
Install NAO, Enhanced Water v20 HDMI, Far Cry Inspired Grass - Expanded, and ITFBark2012 as you would any other mod.

SonicEthers Beaming Sunglare

Show
Download SonicEthers Beaming Sunglare and extract it.

In the Data\Textures\Sky directory, create a new folder called NAO.

Copy sunglare.dds and put it into the folder you created.

Compress the Data folder and install it with your mod manager. Place this mod under NAO so that this sunglare.dds has priority over NAO's default sunglare.dds.

Done!

ReShade + ReShade Helper + Naturalis

Spoiler:
Show
Download ReShade 5.8.0 with Full Add-On Support.

Download ReShade Helper and extract it.

Download Naturalis and extract it.

Double-click the installer to start the installation process. Click Browse... and point it to the directory where Oblivion.exe is, then double-click it. Select DirectX 9.

Follow the rest of the installer's prompts. One screen will ask if you'd like to install a preset. Click Browse... and point it to PX2_ReShadePreset_Naturalis.ini from the ZIP file you extracted earlier. At the effect packages screen, please install Standard Effects and qUINT by Marty McFly at a minimum. Keep all of the effects in these two packages checked.

Click Finish at the screen with the checkmark to close the installer.

Take OBReShadeHelper.addon and put it into the directory where Oblivion.exe is.

Launch the game and press Home to open the ReShade UI. Make sure the shaders are loaded in this order:

All done. Enjoy!

Many thanks to the amazing Alenet and all the talented contributors of Oblivion Reloaded: IStewieAl, shadeMe, llde, GBRPluss, Timeslip, Scanti, Ethatron, and Mathieu C. Thanks to the talented mcstfuerson as well for Oblivion Reloaded E3. It's because of their hard work that this old game can still look good! (You should've heard the excited squealing noises I made when Oblivion and New Vegas finally got dynamic shadows.)

Thanks to crosire for ReShade, and Marty McFly for his amazing work!

The beautifully lifelike colors of NAO do a lot of the heavy lifting for this ReShade, so massive kudos to the phenomenal l00ping for NAO, and for all his other works for so many other games!

I'm obligated to say thank you to Elbethien/laulajatar and miknmel1 as well for the sexy-ass grass, and for the beautiful textures that make me want to hug Cyrodiil's trees, respectively!

Enjoy! Please do feel free to share your screenshots.
