Description

This is another attempt at balancing the enchanted item system and making Mysticism more worthwhile. The features are described below.

Mysticism-Based Item Recharge

Your Mysticism skill will now increase the amount of weapon charge restored by soul gems, up to +50% at a Mysticism skill of 100.

This makes it easier to keep items charged without resorting to adding an automatic recharge feature, which just breaks the game balance in my opinion. The game seems to be balanced around enchanted items costing a premium, that premium being soul gems, which are fairly common in loot and on merchants.

The increased soul gem level only affects recharging, not enchanting.

Azura's Star Replacement (Optional)

Azura's Star no longer acts as a refillable soul gem, and instead grants an ability that increases Mysticism by 40 points, like the Skeleton Key. This contributes to the increased soul gem potency above.

The vanilla Azura's Star pretty much broke the recharge feature, as it meant there was no limit to how much you could recharge your weapons if you had a soul trap spell and a summon.

This feature can be toggled in the mod's INI file. There is also the option to replace the Skeleton Key with a version that doesn't act as an unbreakable lockpick, but still grants the increased Security skill ability. I recommend enabling this option, as the Skeleton Key breaks the balance of the Security skill in the vanilla game.

Soul Gem Conversion

Whenever you trap a soul, the filled soul gem will automatically be converted into a stackable version with increased value. (In the vanilla game, all player-filled soul gems were listed individually in your inventory, and their value did not increase to match pre-filled soul gems.)

Ayleid Well Bonus

The Ayleid Well ability will now grant an extra 20 Mysticism skill so that your recharges are more powerful when the spell is active.

Alternatively, there is an optional file that makes Ayleid Wells fully recharge all your enchanted items like a Varla Stone, but I think this is too overpowered personally.

(Optional) Scrolls of Enchanting

Scrolls that allow you to enchant items when cast have been added to enchanting merchant inventories. In the vanilla game, there are only three enchanting merchants: Calindil (Mystic Emporium, Imperial City), Ungarion (A Warlock's Luck, Bravil), and Earil (Earil's Mysteries, Crucible). This feature allows non-Mages Guild members to enchant items for a premium (the cost of the scroll) and get some use out of their soul gems, rather than the feature being entirely gated behind the Mages Guild recommendation quests.

There is another optional file that makes the local Mages Guild hall enchanters into merchants that will also stock the scroll, although you will not be able to invest in their stores.

Installation

This mod requires the xOBSE.

There are two versions of the main file: one is for vanilla and the other is for if you use Ascension. The Ascension version just changes the Ayleid Well's Restore Magicka effect to have a duration, like in Ascension.

Standard installation procedure: install with your mod manager of choice and activate. I recommend Mod Organizer 2.

The main file contains an INI file that lets you toggle the replacement features for Azuras's Star and the Skeleton Key.

The optional files should be loaded after the main file, but can actually be used without the main file if you want.

Uninstallation

This mod can be uninstalled at any time and will have no permanent effects on your game. If you are using the feature that replaces Azura's Star or the Skeleton Key, make sure to drop the items into a container before uninstalling. After uninstalling, the artifacts may disappear. You can re-add them to your inventory using the console commands below.

Azura's Star
player.additem 193, 1

Skeleton Key
player.additem b, 1

Compatibility

The main mod is almost entirely scripted, so should not conflict with most mods unless the do something very similar. This should not be used with Weapon Enchantment Tweaks.

The optional Mages Guild merchant file has some conflicts with the Unofficial Oblivion Patch and will also conflict with Oblivion Character Overhaul. These can be resolved with a bashed patch.

The main mod and the optional Ayleid Well file will conflict with any mod that changes the Ayleid Well effect. This is very easy to patch using TES4Edit.
