   I have been playing with these spells for quite a while and have not been able to get any of them to work.  I am now level 44 and just tried to Dread spell on a rat I just killed.  Nothing happens.  It is just a level 1 rat, soul size Petty.  So, I can't see why it would fail here.

      I'm pretty sure it doesn't work on creatures, just human and humanoids, but I might be wrong.
