Nice idea, but maybe you should use a different text for paying the bribe to the thieves guild. Something like "Now you're free from harassment by the guards, fellow thief."

Totally valid suggestion! Unfortunately, the mod - in it's current state - only monitors the bounty counter itself, checking if the bounty has increased or reduced to 0 and it cannot tell whether this was because you paid bribe money or because you served your sentence. In any case, I am totally on your side: More specific notes would be great! If anybody with more modding experience than me knows how to access this information, thanks for sharing your insight. I'd be happy to try and integrate it.

Version 1.1 now prompts specific messages, depending on whether you paid bribe money to the thieves guild, served your sentence in jail or paid your fines to the guards. Let me know, if you encounter any instances in which an inappropriate message is displayed!

Glad you like my idea and were able to implement it.
I thought I wouldn't need this mod but now I find myself with a bounty on my head and no idea where it came from. So I'll install to avoid future trouble, and of course I will eport anything unusual that might happen.

EDIT: I just looked into your script in the CS. You can simplify the check for thieves guild bribe if you change the condition to 2* (GoldCount_old - GoldCount_new) == Bounty_old

Yeah, that was the start of it for me, too: A bounty on my head with no clue why...

Thanks for your suggestion to simplify the code. I'll look into it and will be happy to implement, if there will be a new version.

Yeah, that was the start of it for me, too: A bounty on my head with no clue why...

Currently doing the DB quest where I have to systematically kill a list of targets, and here I was thinking I'm being sneaky with my assassination attempts and yet I was (unknowingly) incurring bounties out of nowhere. Happened three times already and I only found out each time because I kept invoking the wrath of the guards. It got to the point where I'm like, "Ok, wtf, I need to KNOW when I'm getting bounties dammit. I'm tired of them trying to apprehend me lol." Good thing I looked up "bounty" on here because yours was the first mod to come up and does EXACTLY what I need. So thank you for this.

EDIT: Just realized you released this mod in 2021... am I to assume that for nearly 15 years players just put up with no bounty notifications? Damn... that's hardcore lol.

You're welcome and thanks for the positive feedback.

Well, I guess I should have started playing Oblivion 15 years earlier to step in ;-) TBH, I am way behind on my games-I-want-to-play-list... shouldn't have gotten a real life ;-p

It's a good mod and very helpful mod when you have regional bounties because you are notified when you are entering an area where the guards are on the lookout for you even if the messages gets a bit strange.
It does say that I served my sentence when I really didn't but instead it was a guard with high disposition that decided to look the other way and paid the fine for me, which I guess either message is a bit off but still close enough.
