   This worked for me before but now Caranya is stuck as essential again during the necromancer's amulet quest :/

   Caranya fix makes the game crash whenever Caranya enters the screen. No problem for Traven.

   Do I need to start a new game for the patch to work ?
   I have not yet started any of the Mages Guild Quests.

      No, you don't need to start a new game. Both of these fixes worked for me when I applied them right in the middle of the affected quests.
      Write back if you run into any problems during that questline.
