Hi Kartoffels, thanks for coming up with this! I'm not a fan of non-vanilla textures and I'm really glad this finally exists.

I've been Googling for a way to make distant textures load the HD versions but I couldn't find a definite answer.
Anyone know if this is something I can edit in one the .ini files?

    Thanks again!

you need to download stuff specific to LODs.

      this is for mesh:  TES4LODGen
there are a lot of improved mesh atlases here on the nexus to help with that. Like Landscape LOD generator tes4ll-v5, and some others search "VWD" on nexus. I think qwerty and J3 have some nice stuff.

For HD LOD textures, use AEVWD. It used to be on the Nexus but Arthmoor moved it to AFKmods (there is some good stuff here, so look around.)

      Really AEVWD 1.9.3

      Thanks for the recommendations!

Will your textures work with AEVWD? I really prefer your Vanilla textures. I'll check these out next weekend and see if I can simply overwrite AEVWD's textures with yours.

I don't do any LOD textures so it should be fine.

      RAEVWD kill the framerate...
I suggest J3 Atlassed VWD 2, Cyrodill(1.1) and new Shivering Isles(1.0) mods with vanilla textures and BAIN installers.
A perfect VWD with these vanilla upscaled texture packs.

Do you think this holds up compared to new upscaled texture mods like Vanilla Remastered 1K? I hear people raving about them but this is still the one people more quietly seem to recommend. I haven't tried Vanilla Remastered since it has issues with certain textures looking worse than vanilla.

Qarl’s pack is honestly outclassed these days, I still prefer the style of it though

Are there any mod conflicts to know about before installing this?

Put this below what exactly? What does that mean "put it below"?

You need to use a mod manager for installing oblivion mods (you NEED to, no escape, especially if you are worried about conflicts...). In any mod manager, you will have a list of mods where "below" means "mods overwriting" the other mods which are "higher" in the list. My suggestion is Wrye Bash (up to date and flawless, dedicated to Oblivion mod manager). So, from Kartoffels' suggestion you would have such a list:

Mod 1: UOP (unofficial patch, if you use and you should anyway)
Mod 2: OUT (which incorporates UOP fixes, so it is safe to overwrite its changes)
Mod 3: etc etc (I suggest to put below OUT any other more specific graphic mod you may want)

Not sure if this is from your mod, but i really just just UOP and your mod for textures. The texture from the caved in corridor seems to be broken somehow.

Hmm maybe accidentally reverted a change from the UOP? just delete those references then.

Hey Kartoffels, Oblivion is always crashing after a few minutes with this Mod. Not even a crash notification. I'm following the Bevilex' modlist and using Wrye Bash.

I only got a few stability mods and OBSE + Plugins installed before OUT:

    - Oblivion Stutter Remover
    - Engine Bug fixes
    -4GB RAM Patcher

    (OBSE Plugins)
    - Blockhead
    - MenuQue
    - Pluggy
    - Elys Universial Silent Voice
    - Custom Enhanced Camera
    -  Diagonal Move
    - SkyBSA
    - OBL Mod Limit Fix

    - Unofficial Oblivion Patch
    - Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch
    - Unofficial Oblivion DLC Patches
    - Oblivion BSA Decompressor
    - NVAC - New Vegas Anti Crash
    - Floating weapons fix (Enemies keep weapons in inventory)

Any idea why my game keeps crashing? Steam Overlay is activated, also crashes when deactivated. Graphic settings are on Medium, not even loading the savegame with High settings.

    Thanks for your help^^

How does this compare to Vanilla Remastered 1K?
UPD: Checked out the 2x version, and, in my opinion, it's better than aforementioned Vanilla Remastered. The textures appear to have more depth and are less grainy. I presume the 4x version is even better. Endorsed.

Mostly, you have to consider game textures come in a variety of sizes.
So if original sizes are: helmet (256x256), torso (512x512), legs (128x128). Then the 2x version would be: helmet (512x512), torso (1024x1024), legs (256x256).

Not sure why "purists" would use this over QTP3. The most notable thing this mod does in faces is overwritten by OcO for many people. In the picture with the stone wall shows all, these textures do absolute nothing for the eye but make your card work harder and game run worse.

Then u don't rly understand what a purist is, as a purist i tell u i prefer this by far than QTP3, i dont want OcO too either

I think the degree to which this comment is off base needs to be clarified. This is a comprehensive texture replacer for vanilla Oblivion. It covers every texture in the base game. Of course it's going to overwrite OCO and any other texture replacers if you make the mistake of installing it after those other mods. That's why it should be installed first! This is also a good case for why you should use a mod manager. If you installed a bunch of mods with Wrye Bash and then want to give something like OUT a try, it's trivial to manage your install order so that OUT installs first, without having to worry about reinstalling other mods or overwriting files you don't want overwritten.

Also, as MT hints at above, it's bizarre to suggest that OUT, which is literally an upscale of vanilla textures, is not more purist that QTP or OCO, which are not derived from vanilla textures at all. That doesn't mean QTP or OCO are bad, but how much purer can you get than upscaled original textures, apart from not modding textures at all?

Precisely - this mod enhances the original vision of the game developers. It's as simple as that.

This mod serves an essential purpose, and serves it well.
